Främjande av säker vård vid intravitreala injektioner : En intervjustudie om sjuksköterskors upplevelse / Promoting safe care in intravitreal injections : an interview study on the nurse´s experience

Jensen, Pernilla, Kroon, Sofia January 2018 (has links)
An increasing number of patients are in need of intravitreal injections which lead to a need of extending capacity at eye clinics. One of the essential core competencies in nursing care is safe care and the purpose of this study was to investigate ophthalmologic nurse´s experiences of promoting safe care in conjunction with intravitreal injections. The study was conducted as an interview study with descriptive qualitative design with inductive approach. Data was analyzed with qualitative manifest content analysis resulting in three main categories; “Well-functioning routines ”, “Continuityin the team” and “Promote patient-participation”. As the number of patients increases, ophthalmologic nurses ’ experience their ability taking care even more endanger patient safety. Ophthalmologic nurses experience that they provide safe care through continuity and a consolidated team. The patients feel safe when meeting the same healthcare staff when receiving the treatments. Worried patients may be at risk of healthcare injuries and therefore the nurses strive to inform and involve the patients ensuring that they feel co-responsible in their own care. The result also shows that well-functioning routines promote safe care. Further research may be performed in part of developing standardized care plans promoting safe care at eye clinics.

Effects of Attitudes, Subjective Norms, Self-Efficacy, and Bike Rodeo Participation on Intention to Bike Safely

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: Thousands of children are being injured every day in bicycling accidents. Interventions, like Safe Routes to School, are currently in place to combat injury rates by providing programs to teach children safe biking behaviors. In order to develop effective behavioral change programs, behavior and the components of which it is composed must be understood. Attitudes, subjective norms, and self-efficacy are important predictors of intention to perform a behavior. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the extent to which attitude, subjective norms, self-efficacy, and bike rodeo participation explain third through eighth graders' intentions to bike safely. These constructs were tested using a survey research design in a purposive sample of fifty-seven third through eighth grade students in Safe Routes to School schools in the Southwest. Students took an online survey in the computer lab at their respective schools supervised by a teacher. The study found attitudes to be comprised of three factors: happy/safe, not afraid, and calm. Overall, the model explained approximately 71% of the variance in children's intentions to bike safely, R2=.749, Adjusted R2=.713, F(7, 49)=20.854, p<.01. The significant predictors were happy/safe attitudes, subjective norms, self-efficacy, and a quadratic self-efficacy term explaining 10% (p=.019), 28% (p<.01), 18% (p<.01), and 15% (p<.01) respectively. The results of the study can be used to create future and improve current bike safety interventions for children. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Recreation and Tourism Studies 2011

The Peruvian Water Resources Law (Ley de Recursos Hídricos 29338) aims to promote educational programs on the importance of water (Art. 3, section 3). On the other hand, PUCP seeks to analyze and reflect on the current way of teaching to develop a new teaching method. The “Safe Water Industry in the City and Innovation Management” (La Industria del Agua Potable en una Ciudad y la Gestión de la Innovación) intends to develop an active and collaborative methodology jointly with students, teachers and professionals, while making use of ICT’s to produce training videos about water. Churches’ “Bloom’s Taxonomy for the Digital Era” is employed in understanding and interpreting the advanced learning methodology.

Control of E. coli in biosolids

Fane, Sarah Elizabeth January 2016 (has links)
Achieving microbial compliance levels in biosolids storage is complicated by the unpredictable increase of Escherichia coli (E. coli), which serves as an important indicator for pathogen presence risk. Meeting required microbial specifications validates sludge treatment processes and ensures that a safe product is applied to agricultural land. Controlled indicator monitoring provides confidence for farmers, retailers and the food industry, safeguarding the sludge-to-land application route. Following mechanical dewatering biosolids products are stored before microbial compliance testing permits agricultural application. During storage, concentrations of E. coli bacteria can become elevated and prevent the product from meeting the conventional or enhanced levels of treatment outlined in The Safe Sludge Matrix guidelines. Literature research identified innate characteristics of sludge and ambient environmental parameters of storage which are factors likely to influence E. coli behaviour in stored biosolids. The research hypothesis tested whether E. coli growth and death in dewatered sewage sludge can be controlled by the modification of physical-chemical factors in the cake storage environment. Parameters including nutrient availability, temperature, moisture content and atmospheric influences were investigated through a series of laboratory-scale experiments. Controlled dewatering and the assessment of modified storage environments using traditional microbial plating and novel flow cytometry analysis have been performed. At an operational scale, pilot trials and up-scaled monitoring of the sludge storage environment have been conducted enabling verification of laboratory results. Understanding the dynamics of cell health within the sludge matrix in relation to nutrient availability has provided a valuable understanding of the mechanisms that may be affecting bacterial growth post-dewatering. The importance of elevated storage temperatures on E. coli death rates and results showing the benefits of a controlled atmosphere storage environment provide important considerations for utilities.

Tokyo: A Megacity that works? : Policies, Planning and Sustainable Development Goal 11

Donohoe, Nicola January 2018 (has links)
Sustainability has become highly prominent, it is an important aspect of the 21st century that is gradually becoming part of everyday life. Urbanisation has also rapidly increased since the 1950s when New York was the only urban area in the world to be considered a megacity due to its extensive population; presently megacities can be found globally with predicted to arise in the future. The growth rate of some of the largest urban areas in the world has been too rapid for some cities to keep up with; resulting in environmental, social, and economic issues growing alongside the urbanisation trend. The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) wants to work towards reducing and eventually removing such issues at a global scale; reducing the inequalities of the world that are more than often to visible in large urban areas. This thesis aims to examine the SDGs, specifically that of SDG 11 which focuses on cities and human settlements in line with one of the largest urban areas on the planet, Tokyo. An examination of planning and policy documents composed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) in the form of a comparative analysis alongside key criteria taken from SDG 11 will be conducted to gain an insight and understanding of the plans and policies that are working to create a functioning society in Tokyo.
