Slabé a slabé* homeomorfismy / Weak and weak* homeomorphisms

Švarc, Radovan January 2020 (has links)
In this thesis we are studying some properties of weakly sequential homeomorphisms between Banach spaces. First, we show some results that summarize how are some clas- ses of Banach spaces (specifically separable spaces, spaces with separable dual, Asplund spaces, reflexive spaces, weakly compactly generated spaces and spaces not containing isomorphic copy of ℓ1) determined by weak topology of the space. Then we show that to preserve some properties (separability, reflexivity and being weakly compactly gene- rated) it is enough for the spaces to be weakly sequentially homeomorphic. Furthermore we show that if two spaces are weakly sequentially uniformly homeomorphic then one contains isomorphic copy of ℓ1 if and only if the other spaces has this property. Finally we construct weakly sequential homeomorphisms between some class of Banach spaces.

Advance water abatement in oil and gas reservoir

Sidiq, Hiwa January 2007 (has links)
The control of excessive water production in oil and gas producing wells is of increasing importance to the field operator, primarily when trying to maintain the survivability of a mature field from shut in. During the last two decades many chemicals have been studied and applied under the name of relative permeability modifier (RPM) to combat this problem. These chemicals were mostly bullheaded individually into the affected zones, consequently their application resulted in low to medium success, particularly in treating reservoirs suffering from matrix flow. It has been found that the disproportionate permeability reduction depends on the amount of polymer dispersed or absorbed by the porous rock. If single polymers are employed to treat excessive water production in a matrix reservoir they cannot penetrate deep into the formation rock because the polymer will start to build as a layer on the surface of the rock grains. As a result the placement of polymer into the formation will no be piston like and the dispersion over the rock pores will be uneven. To improve water shutoff technology a method of injecting chemicals sequentially is recommended provided that the chemical’s viscosity is increasing successively with the chemicals injected. / Experimentally confirmed, injecting chemicals sequentially provides better results for conformance control. The value of post treatment water mobility is conspicuously lowered by the method of applying injecting chemicals sequentially in comparison with the single chemical injection method. For instance, the residual resistance factor to water (Frrw) at the first cycle of brine flushing for this method is approximately five times higher than the Frrw obtained by injecting only one single chemical. Furthermore, for the second cycle of brine flushing Frrw is still higher by a ratio of about 2.5. In addition to this improvement residual resistance factor to oil Frro for this method is less than two which has been considered as the upper limit for conformance control in matrix reservoir. Accordingly injecting chemical sequentially can be applied for enhancing relative permeability modifier performance in matrix reservoir.

An Application of Armitage Trend Test to Genome-wide Association Studies

Scott, Nigel A 17 July 2009 (has links)
Genome-wide Association (GWA) studies have become a widely used method for analyzing genetic data. It is useful in detecting associations that may exist between particular alleles and diseases of interest. This thesis investigates the dataset provided from problem 1 of the Genetic Analysis Workshop 16 (GAW 16). The dataset consists of GWA data from the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Consortium (NARAC). The thesis attempts to determine a set of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) that are associated significantly with rheumatoid arthritis. Moreover, this thesis also attempts to address the question of whether the one-sided alternative hypothesis that the minor allele is positively associated with the disease or the two-sided alternative hypothesis that the genotypes at a locus are associated with the disease is appropriate, or put another way, the question of whether examining both alternative hypotheses yield more information.

A numerical study of a highway embankment on degrading permafrost

Gholamzadehabolfazl, Arash 04 December 2015 (has links)
In this research, two comprehensive numerical models were developed using ABAQUS/CAE Finite Element (FE) software: 1) geothermal model, and 2) coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model. In the first model, a purely heat transfer analysis was performed to reproduce the conditions at the site and investigate the subsurface thermal regime beneath the road embankment. The existence of a frozen section (frost bulb) underneath the embankment and its size and location were investigated by the model. The second model concentrated on the mechanical behaviour of the road embankment. Temperature-dependent thermal and mechanical properties were used for all the materials. Model parameters were calibrated using the results of the triaxial and oedometer tests which have been conducted by previous researchers. A fully-coupled and a sequentially-coupled analysis were conducted. The results of the two analyses were compared to each other and to the field measurements. / February 2016

Efetividade da tripsina sobre embriões murinos infectados experimentalmente com BoHV-1. / Effectiveness of trypsin on murine embryos experimentally infected with BoHV-1.

Palazzi, Eduardo Gimenes 12 November 2010 (has links)
This study evaluated the effectiveness of treatment with trypsin (TT) in the elimination of BoHV-1 Colorado, which causes infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) Swiss female mice, aged 6 and 8 weeks, were superovulated with 0.2 mL 5UI hormone eCG and 48h after hCG and mated with males of the same lineage and age. After 18 hours, females were euthanized, and through na opening in the peritoneum, the zygotes were collected. Zygotes were separated for five trials that provided the following data: the Colorado BoHV-1 alters the cleavage rate and embryo morphology; trypsin, following recommendations of the IETS, does not damage the embryo; the embryos exposed to the virus and subjected to TT does not change their morphology and cleavage rate; were detected (nested-PCR +) viable virus (MDBK +) after the TT. These results demonstrate that TT was not effective to eliminate the BoHV-1 Colorado, but in some tests showed the TT efficiency in inactivating the virus makes it na important method of control in vitro.
