Skateboarding is growing in popularity more than ever and its further development will be sealed with its introduction to the Olympics in 2020. Stereotype of noisy, pot smoking outlaws is gradually vanishing, people enjoy watching skaters efforts and appreciate life they can bring to otherwise dull or unsafe areas. That results also in new challenges for the designers, not only in form of dedicated facilities- skateparks. As far as they are needed objects and their quality is crucial for safety of users and investment success they are also purpose built and therefore fake. They lack some of the most important aspects inscribed in skateboarders culture such as various, exciting and sometimes harsh city experience or improvisation and reinterpretation. Skateboarders will always oppose to use only dedicated areas or objects as they treat a whole city landscape as a playground.

The building will create a meeting place for athletes who want to develop their knowledge in associated extreme sports. BX center should be a destination where development and training are in focus. The activities should feel both easily accessible and inclusive, while there is the opportunity for individual training opportunities. The building will not only attract residents around the area but also people outside Eskilstuna. The goal is for private individuals, companies and associations to be able to come overnight and use the property according to its own interests and sports investments. The building is divided into two levels plus a completely usable roof level. The roof level and entrance level are cast in place with organic curves that function as heights and separate the level in different areas or functions. Ground floor is flat on the ground and contains more public functions, such as exhibition spaces, auditorium, seminar room, restaurant and accommodation. Ground floor is more adapted to the athlete's needs with gym, changing rooms, physiotherapist, social areas, etc.The roof with its organic shapes will function as a huge skate park, which can be climbed in three places. At ground level there is a skate park, pump track, pakrour / trial track, motocross track, basketball court, volleyball court and trailer / mountain bike track. / Byggnaden ska skapa mötesplats för atleter som vill utveckla sina kunskaper inom tillhörande extremsport. BX center ska vara en destination där utveckling och träning är i fokus. Aktiviteterna ska både kännas lättillgängliga och inkluderande samtidigt som det finns möjlighet för individuella träningsmöjligheter. Byggnaden ska inte bara locka invånare runt omkring i området utan även personer utanför Eskilstuna kommun. Målet är att privatpersoner, företag och föreningar ska kunna komma övernatt och utnyttja fastigheten utefter dess egna intressen och idrottsliga satsningar.  Byggnaden är indelad i två plan plus ett helt användbart takplan. Takplanet och entréplan är platsgjutna med organiska kurvor som fungerar som höjder och skiljer av planen i olika områden eller funktioner. Markplan är platt på marken och innehåller mer offentliga funktioner, så som utställningsytor, aula, seminarierum, restaurang och boende. Markplan är mer anpassad utefter idrottarens behov med gym, omklädningsrum, sjukgymnast, sälskapsytor osv. Taket med sina organiska former ska fungera som en jättestor skatepark, som man kan ta sig upp på tre ställen. På marknivå finns det både skatepark, pumptrack, pakrour/trial bana, motorcrossbana, basketplan, volleybollplan samt trailer/mountainbike spår.

I mitt examensarbete har jag arbetat med att ta fram en design samt förfrågningsunderlag för en Skatepark i Gällivare. Arbetet presenterades för politikerna i Gällivare kommun. Arbetet inleddes under min praktik på LKAB Samhällsomvandling där jag hade erfarna projektledare som handledare. Därefter fortlöpte projektet på egen hand efter att praktiken avslutats. Grunden till att jag valde just detta område är att det finns ett beslut att uppföra en anläggning i Gällivare men projektet har lagts på is. Det tillsammans med ett eget brinnande intresse för skateboardåkning och en önskan att göra något positivt för kommunens invånare gjorde valet av exjobb till en självklarhet. I förfrågningsunderlaget skickades ut till företag som arbetar med helhetslösningar för skateparker i Sverige och norden, behövdes först förslag på en placering och olika områdesförslag för Skateparken ifråga tas fram.  För att få en någorlunda uppskattning på vad ett sådant här projekt kan tänkas kosta, var en av utmaningarna att ta fram en egen design på en anläggning baserad på de områdesförslag som tagits fram. Designen kom till liv med hjälp av medlemmar från den lokala skateboardföreningen efter att möten ägt rum där det diskuterades olika element som man önskade ingå i designen av den nya parken.  När arbetet med förfrågningsunderlaget var färdigt och efter att respons från företaget som jag skickat ut det till kommit in, förbereddes en presentation som sedan hölls för Gällivare kommuns Samhällsbyggnadsutskott. Efter presentationen var genomförd deltog jag samt medlemmar från Gällivare Skateboardförening i en Workshop för ett område som heter Sjöparken i centrala Gällivare. Sjöparken ingår i ett projekt där hela parken ska utvecklas och rustas upp. Projektledaren för upprustningen av Sjöparken tog sedan kontakt med mig för att boka in ett möte. Under mötet meddelades att en skatepark ingår i deras planering för framtida Sjöparken. Bästa möjliga utfall är nu att upphandlingen av skateparken kommer ske efter årsslutet och att arbetet med parken inleds till våren

The assignment is an architecture and urban planning study of a sports and recreation center. The solved area is located in the town of Vsetín, in the part called Ohrada. Nowdays, the area is obsolete, unfunctional and also unmodern. My project is mainly focused to create a concept that responds to the environment, offers outdoor and indoor spaces for all generations. It allows better connection with nature, variable use, and division of area by function. The design is defined by the river Bečva on the west side and a busy 1st class road on the east side. It was important to separate pedestrians and cyclists from motor vehicles. The response to this restriction is to direct traffic in the area to the west, towards the river. This creates a terrain works that optically deflects the design in a quieter direction. Buildings are placed in the line and oriented in the western direction. After creating the terrain, I divided the area into several segments according to functionality. In the heart of the area, a multifunctional central hall with an inner climbing wall is set in the terrain. In front of it is a public space for meetings, sports and recreation. On the other side, there is a basketball court, a workout playground, a children's playground in front of the hall and a rest area of ??greenery closer to the river. If we continue southerly down, another cube set into the terrain is a building with a restaurant and a cafe. The southernmost building is a tennis club with facilities for athletes and squash. In front of the building there is a 9x tennis court with a grandstand. Closer to the river and the bike path there is an outdoor climbing wall. From the newly created embankment, the area is divided by a cycle path around the river. Behind the bridge is a green belt separated area which, unlike the previous ones, is tuned in a calmer spirit. We will find a building of a yoga and meditation center.
