Avaliação de sistemas de janela para suporte a decisões de projeto quanto à iluminação e uso de energia / Window systems evaluation for design decision support on daylight and energy use.

Lima, Kamila Mendonça de 16 February 2016 (has links)
Designing window systems in a climate responsive way involves dealing with the effects of the external environment, which are dynamic, and strategies that may conflict, such as daylight and control of solar heat gains, both elements related to the sun. This research assumes that this is done considering the impact of different design variables in different performance indicators simultaneously, for decision support. The study of the effect of window design variables when combined is not yet consolidated, especially in case of low latitude locations. The general objective of this doctoral research is to evaluate static and dynamic window systems to support architectural design decisions regarding different performance criteria related to daylight and energy use, in an integrated manner. The studied window system consists of a glazed opening and external horizontal slat-type shading devices, fixed and mobile, in offices in the hot and humid climate of the city of Maceió-AL. For this, computer integrated simulations using Daysim and EnergyPlus software were carried out, considering the activation of the lighting system only when daylight is not sufficient to meet the usage requirements. The design variables analyzed were window-to-wall ratio, glazing type, cut-off angle, number of slats, type of shading control and orientation. Architectural solutions resulting from combinations of all variables were evaluated regarding the availability and distribution of daylight and electricity demand for air conditioning and artificial lighting in the indoor environment. The solutions were then rated and ranked according to two main indicators. The design variables among the analyzed with potential of high impact in the obtained performance in different situations were identified. The results showed that it is possible an alternative be in a range of 10% best scenarios in the two criteria at the same time. It was also observed that, although the energy demand for conditioning air often be greater than the lighting energy demand, the performance of the window on daylight can have a decisive weight on the design choice, because this performance indicator is more sensitive to the window variables than the first. Finally, it was observed that the dynamic shading systems are not performance-enhancing guarantee compared to static systems.

Parametric study of energy retrofit options for a historical building

El Tayara, Khaled January 2022 (has links)
Retrofitting measures in old buildings aimed at reducing energy consumption has become a widespread subject and an urgent matter to counteract the effects of climate change and GHGs emissions. The globe has reaffirmed its agreement taken in COP21 to reduce emissions in COP26. The building sector is one of the culprits with a 70 % future energy consumption forecasted by 2050 i.e., the year certain countries aim to carbon neutral (e.g., Sweden). An old building with a severe problem of energy leakage has been studied under the influence of multiple parameters such as building orientation, shading systems, location, Low-E film and an alternative energy supply (GHP). The original building’s EnU amounted to 194.5 kWh/m2•yr; the parameters were applied and orientation of 90⁰ worked best, if the building was being designed, contrary to this case. However, energy reductions, compared to the base model, were actually achieved with the application of Low-E (5%) films and when substituting the heating demand with a GHP (57.5%), LEF-GHP reached (59.2%) and a corresponding decrease in CO2 emissions. Thermal comfort was best achieved with models that had the highest energy consumption such as LEF and ES making it counterproductive in fulfilling the aim of reducing GHG footprint of Rådhuset. The economic feasibility study showed that the installation of a GHP with at least the COP of 4.0 would lead to a shorter payback period than solely applying LEF. A tailored solution of a change in the energy source such as electrified heat supply from renewables combined with LEFs would reduce the energy and emission impact of any building; this would help the building sector reach the envisioned goal of carbon neutrality in 2050.

Design, fabrication and performance analysis of vacuum glazing units fabricated with low and high temperature hermetic glass edge sealing materials

Memon, Saim January 2013 (has links)
Vacuum glazing is a vital development in the move to more energy efficient buildings. In vacuum glazing, an evacuated cavity supresses gaseous conduction and convection to provide high thermal resistance. A high vacuum pressure (less than 0.1 Pa) is required and must be maintained by a hermetic seal around the periphery, currently formed with either indium (i.e. low temperature sealing method) or solder glass (i.e. high temperature sealing method). This thesis reports the results of an experimental and theoretical investigation into the development of new low temperature (less than 200°C) and novel high temperature (up to 450°C) glass edge seals. A new low temperature composite edge seal was developed in which double and triple vacuum glazings each of dimensions 300x300mm were fabricated with measured vacuum pressures of 4.6x10-2Pa and 4.8x10-2Pa achieved respectively. A three dimensional finite element model of the fabricated design of composite edge sealed triple vacuum glazing was developed.

Wellness Čeladná / Wellness Čeladná

Kozumplíková, Markéta January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this master thesis is to design a low-energy building for civic amenities, specifically the design of a recreational wellness centre. The building has an L-shaped floor plan with a flat roof and is designed with two above ground and one underground floor. The ground floor will serve as a wellness centre with a swimming pool and saunas. Massages and solariums are proposed on the 2nd floor. Technical facilities are located in the basement. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the architectural and structural design. Structurally, the building is divided into two parts. The part of the administrative facilities and the massage rooms consists of a construction of the character of a transverse wall system made of cut brick blocks and insulated with ETICS. The internal masonry is designed in ceramic ground bricks. Ceiling structures are in the form of continuous reinforced concrete slab. The building is based on footings and waist foundations. The roof of the building is single-skin flat with a gravel. The wellness part is made up of a monolithic diaphragm skeleton with high slenderness columns. The horizontal load-bearing structure in this case again consists of a continuous monolithic reinforced concrete slab. The second part of the thesis deals mainly with the environmental engineering of the buildings. The building will be heated by a pellet boiler and will also use energy from photovoltaic panels. Ventilation in the building is provided by air handling units with heat recovery. The third part of the thesis deals with the assessment of solar gains in the indoor environment of the pool hall. Three variants are proposed with multi-criteria evaluation and the optimal option is selected. The thesis is mainly elaborated in Archicad, Deksoft, MS Excel and Word software.
