Este estudio investiga el reto que enfrenta el estudiante cuando empieza a estudiar la literatura hispánica. Se enfoca en los siguientes aspectos de este tema: 1) la brecha que existe entre el vocabulario limitado de un estudiante de segunda lengua y el vocabulario amplio de un hablante nativo; 2) en qué consiste un vocabulario mínimo; 3) cómo el leer extensivamente ayuda a desarrollar el vocabulario; 4) la necesidad de utilizar y saber utilizar el diccionario para aumentar el vocabulario; 5) la literatura infantil y juvenil como un recurso útil para desarrollar el vocabulario y 6) un análisis de unos libros escritos para niños de varias edades.

This research investigated Computer Aided Design (CAD) education in the interior design. program focusing on educators' opinions about creativity aspects including computer application, teaching materials and teaching methods as well as other trends in CAD education. A questionnaire was sent to one hundred eighty-two members of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC).
A frequency distribution was used on 69 usable returned surveys to describe the sample characteristics and to determine the teaching materials and support. Means and T-tests were employed to examine if a significant difference of opinions toward CAD integration existed between designers based on creativity, teaching materials, and teaching approaches.
Findings indicate that educators are thinking positively regarding the creativity aspects of teaching CAD. There was no significant difference between IBM educators and Apple Macintosh educators in terms of opinions concerning creativity and teaching approaches and also no significant difference in the educators who are using more flexible teaching approaches and the educators who are using more rigid teaching approaches in terms of creativity. Educators thought CAD courses are most helpful for students' future careers. Educators remarked that their college, department, and other faculties are generally very supportive. Overall the educators had fewer than 4 years of experience in teaching CAD. One or two CAD educators were teaching in each interior design program. IBM personal computer, AutoCAD software, instructor prepared tutorials were the most used teaching materials. / Master of Science

One purpose of this study was to determine the relationships among community college students' mathematics, electronics, and electronics troubleshooting knowledge. A second purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which independent variables predicted troubleshooting knowledge. Students involved in the study were enrolled in electronics technician associate degree granting programs. More specifically the study was designed to examine the relationships among electronics troubleshooting knowledge and the following independent variables:
1. Number of mathematics courses taken at the community college level
2. Types of mathematics courses taken at community college level
3. Mathematics knowledge as measured by scores on a standardized mathematics test
4. Number of electronics courses taken at the high school level
5. Number of electronics courses taken at the community college level
6. Prior work experience in the electronics industry
In addition to examining these variables, this study also sought to answer the question: Which combination of variables best tends to predict troubleshooting knowledge?
Usable data were gathered from 100 North Carolina community college students who were enrolled in electronics technician degree granting programs at five randomly selected community colleges. The students participating in this study were administered three data gathering instruments. The instruments included a Student Information and Data Sheet designed to gather demographic information about each student, a standardized mathematics knowledge test designed to cover the mathematical concepts stressed in elementary, intermediate and college algebra, and finally, a paper and pencil electronics and troubleshooting test which consisted of troubleshooting an AM transceiver functional block diagram, a servicing block diagram, a power supply, and a summing circuit.
It was determined that under the conditions imposed by this study only one of the independent variables, score on the Mathematics Knowledge Test, could be used with some accuracy to predict troubleshooting knowledge. The independent variable mathematics knowledge, as represented by scores on the standardized mathematics knowledge test, could only predict troubleshooting knowledge with 6.8% percent accuracy. / Ed. Visual experience is a powerful pedagogic tool. Extensive use of experimental studies prior to design and construction has made conceptualization of complex structures possible. Experiments on reduced-scale structures and specimens are also vital tools for teaching structural mechanics. As such, the Department of Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech has acquired a new apparatus for use as an educational demonstration tool in the area of structural mechanics. This work presents the results of a detailed study on the performance of this device as related to its accuracy and operation.
To fulfill such objectives, two structural models (a continuous beam and a portal frame) were extensively tested under several loading and support configurations. The models were analysed using STRUDL as well as a computer program developed by the author. The comparison of the results (deformations) obtained in the two phases of the study have indicated that the apparatus is reasonably accurate to meet the requirements of a structural teaching model and adapting to a variety of structural models. / Master of Science / incomplete_metadata

The purpose of this research was to use a lexical approach, and information and communication technologies (ICT) as strategies to facilitate learning to students of Spanish as a foreign language, to answer the research questions: (1) if the use of multiword lexical units improves the lexical competence and (2) whether the use of technology is an effective strategy to facilitate learning. A lesson plan with different activities was designed and put into practice with two groups of students (experimental and control) of the intermediate level of the University of North Texas (UNT). The collected data were analyzed using the quantitative paradigm with the variance model ANOVA with repeated measures, and the qualitative or interpretive paradigm to offer a broader perspective of the learning process of multiwords lexical units (collocations and idiomatic expressions). The results of this investigation answered the research questions and confirmed the effectiveness of the lexical approach and ICT in the teaching-learning process and facilitated the student's acquisition of L2.
