Talvez em nossa cultura mulheres tenham melhor retomo em termos de pedido de socorro e/ou mudança de ambiente após a tentativa de suicídio, o que encorajaria a repetição do ato / Abstract: The great majority of data regarding individuals with repeated suicide attempts were obtained from developed countries- The aim of this study is to describe the clinical profile of 61 Brazilian individuals who attempted suicide at least three times and compare them to 102 who were brought to a university hospital for their first suicide attempt. Socio-démographie and clinical data were collected using the WHO/SUPRE-MISS questionnaire, which also comprises several psychometric scales. In the repeaters' group, there were more women (83.6% vs 56.8%; OR= 4,47), 25-44 year-old subjects, worse occupational status and social role performance disability (OR= 2.5, 3.1 and 1.05 respectively). Repeaters also had higher scores on depression. Maybe in our culture women would obtain better feedback with such behavior, that is, help and/or change in the environment, which would encourage the repetition of the act / Mestrado / Saude Mental / Mestre em Ciências Médicas

Asistovaná sebevražda z pohledu českého trestního práva a srovnání s pohledem common law / Assisted suicide in the perspective of the Czech criminal law and a comparison with the common lawKosinková, Karolína January 2020 (has links)
Assisted suicide in the perspective of the Czech criminal law and a comparison with the common law Abstract The strict prohibition on assisted suicide does not reach full acceptance among the members of the Czech society, regardless of their professional or non-professional background, similarly as it did not reach full acceptance in some of the common law countries, which consequently departed or are soon to depart from this regulatory conception. The objective of the two so far proposed Czech bills was identical, however, owing to the lack of clarity and detail, which certainly did not amount to the seriousness of the issue they aimed to regulate, none of them was successful. Hence, the legislative works were recommenced last year and resulted in the third bill, which claimed to be much more elaborative on the key issues and accordingly precise in the usage of language. Although the bill has not been introduced yet, the assumptions based not only on the territorial proximity are, that its prime source of inspiration resided mostly in the permissive regulatory attitude towards assisted suicide (or voluntary, active and intentional, euthanasia) as implemented in the European countries. However, notwithstanding the utter differences in the conception of the common law legal system, especially for such...

Firearm Suicide Among Older Adults: A Sociological AutopsySlater, Greta Yoder 12 August 2010 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Background: Emile Durkheim (1897/1985) theorized that sociological variables (e.g., social, political, economic) are more helpful for understanding suicide than individual or psychological explanations. This study extends the previous sociological work on suicide by testing a theoretical model that includes economic, political, and social variables. The purpose of this study was the development and testing of a predictive model of firearm suicide among the general population and among older adults in the US.

Psychological autopsy of male perpetrator and female victim intimate partner murder-suicide in a rural community in Limpopo ProvinceMuthivhi, Elelwani January 2021 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D. (Psychology)) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / Though it is difficult to determine the prevalence of intimate partner murder-suicide
(IPMS), it does appear that this phenomenon is reported in different parts of the world.
The psychological consequences of this phenomenon to the surviving family members
have also been widely reported. The aim of the study was to conduct a psychological
autopsy (PA) on male perpetrators and female victims of IPMS in a rural community
in Limpopo Province. The research objectives were; 1) To understand the
psychological intent, motives and behaviour of male perpetrators and female victims
in IPMS; 2) to identify role played by male perpetrators and female victims in effecting
their death; 3) To investigate multiple trajectories (that is, psychological, social,
environmental and cultural/historical context) contributed to IPMS; 4) To identify other
factors or events that may have triggered fatal behaviour of both male perpetrators
and female victims of IPMS; 5) To understand circumstances around IPMS; 6) To
develop guidelines to assist in responding to IPMS.
The study was qualitative in nature. In particular, the case study design was used.
Interpretative phenomenology approach was adopted. The study was informed by the
Theory of Planned Behaviour. Purposive sampling used to select cases of intimate
partner murder-suicide. Snowball sampling used to select participants and archival
sampling was used to select archived record. Thematic Content Analysis (that is,
inductive analysis) was used to identify patterns of meaning across the datasets in
order to provide answers to the research objective. The research revealed five major
themes. These themes are psychological profile of perpetrators, psychological profile
of victims, multiple trajectories towards IPMS, possible triggers in IPMS and
circumstance around IPMS.
Research findings suggest that although IPMS came as a total surprise there were
psychological intent, motive, behaviour on the part of male perpetrators and female
victims. The study recommends the need for further PA studies to shed the light on
the psychological intent of male perpetrators and female victims of IPMS. The
psychological intent of male perpetrators and female victims of IPMS heighten the
urgency for policy makers to develop IPMS prevention strategies and policies / National Institute for the Humanities and

Suicide Attempts and Their Contributing Factors Among African American VeteransBlaise, Gervline 01 January 2019 (has links)
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. The rate of suicide attempts among veterans in the United States has increased tremendously since 2001, which has left the Department of Veterans Affairs deeply concerned. The purpose of this study was to examine if there is an association between suicide attempts among African American/Black veterans and mental health support, income level, marital status, education level, and unemployment status. This quantitative study used the socio-ecological model to explain the association of the contributing factors to suicide attempts. Descriptive statistics, chi-square, and logistic regression were used to analyze the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality. The publicly available dataset contains 55,271 cases with 6,698 Blacks/African American in the study. The findings of the study show 20% of African American veterans who seek support received it and 80% did not in suicide attempts among African American/ Blacks veterans and mental health support, income level, marital status, education level and unemployment status. The study showed there is a need for greater support for African American veterans through either policy or access to more mental health care. The social change implication is that need to be greater advocacy for support for African Americans who experience suicidal thought seeking support. Providing the support, they need can possibly help save lives.
