Semi-Blind Channel Estimation Using Superimposed Perfect Sequences for OFDM Systems

Huang, Wei-Chieh 28 July 2006 (has links)
A complex array for constructing perfect sequences is presented in this paper. The row sequences and their discrete Fourier transform form two sets of perfect sequences. The column sequences are orthogonal to each other for any cyclic shift. In addition, any combination of the column sequences with complex weighting coefficients of equal amplitude is also a perfect sequence. In addition, a superimposed training scheme is also proposed for channel estimation in OFDM systems. The perfect sequence is adopted since it has a constant magnitude in both the time domain and the frequency domain. Although the derived channel estimator has a slightly worse performance since the unknown data contributes extra noise, the effective data throughput is substantially increased. In addition, the proposed scheme is shown to have a much better peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) because the added perfect sequence has a constant magnitude in the time domain.

Reclaim the Non- places. : Superimposing an Urban Device into the cityscape of Umeå.

Stille, Alexander January 2022 (has links)
“Reclaiming the non- places” is an ambition to activate underutilized urban spaces- normally referred to as “non- places”. Non- place is a term founded by philosopher Marc Augé, describing places characterized by anonymity, such as airports, hotels, motorways etc… Based on this information, one could find new examples of non- places in Umeå. As a student, the main campus of Umeå became an interesting site to investigate. How could I improve this site architecturally, by introducing my notion of the non- place?  When inventing a spatial programme, it felt logic to relate the function of the structure to the function of the site. Therefore, I decided the programme to be about learning.  However, I don’t want to replicate the logic of the typical learning environment, I imagine that my proposal could rethink the learning experience.  We are all aware that seminars and lectures can become boring, even if the subject itself is interesting. As human beings, we are not meant to sit still for too long. Therefore, the typical classroom is poorly designed.  My ambition is to create a free learning environment where people can learn and move at the same time. I believe that “learning by moving” could be a better tool than “learning by sitting down”. I also have a futuristic viewpoint on the project. What technologies could enhance the learning experience?  I want the learning process to be an active experience that touch all the senses.

Revitalizing Mumbai Textile Mill Lands for the City

Surve, Vinay 01 January 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Cities are always in transition and so the city’s Architecture should respond to it. Transition brings opportunities of growth, expansion, improvement in social and urban fabric along with new development strategies. My thesis explores the current trend of textile mills development in the heart of the city of Mumbai, its drawbacks and proposes a development plan for a mill premise for the benefit of the city. It is an attempt to preserve the city’s old fabric, which at one time was a city in itself and merge its fabric with the new development in a cohesive manner. I was looking at the response to the historic city and how you add new work to it by superimposing or juxtaposing. The success of the building is in its layering, its discovery by the visitor and its ability to make a public building truly public. My ideas come from observation: of the site, of nature, of people moving in the city.
