O império romano de Aurélio Vítor / The Roman Empire of Aurelius Victor

Antiqueira, Moisés 27 November 2012 (has links)
A historiographical study of Aurelius Victors Historiae abbreuiatae. That is what defines the present work, which tries to ascertain how the aforementioned historian settled up a narrative about the history of the Roman Empire in the twilight of the reign of Constantius II. Therefore, we discuss at first the nature of the work. Despite the clear biographical trend we can observe in the text, as well as the brevity that characterizes it, the work of Aurelius Victor should be seen as a historical narrative since the author aimed to expose both the causes and the course of Roman imperial history, from the Battle of Actium to the last but one year of Constantius IIs reign. Thereupon we examine the strategies of periodization and the perspectives defined by Aurelius Victor in order to compose his text. In the Historiae abbreuiatae, the conduct showed by the emperors and their moral character represented the driving force of the narrative. That led the author to emphasize the ups and downs of Roman past in almost four hundred years of history. In this sense, Aurelius Victor did not lose track of some contradictions that encourage historical figures into action. That resulted in Aurelius Victors failure to identify an idealized model of Roman emperor due to distinct elements and circunstances that he himself pointed out in the course of the history of the Roman Empire.

IL RUOLO DELLE GRANDI VILLE NELLA TRASFORMAZIONE DELL'INSEDIAMENTO RURALE NELL'ALTO MEDIOEVO: IL CASO DI PALAZZO PIGNANO E DEL DISTRICTUS DELL'INSULA FULCHERII / The role of the great villae in the rural transformation in early middle age : the case of Palazzo Pignano and the districtus of Insula Fulcherii

CASIRANI, MARILENA 16 April 2010 (has links)
The late-antique villa of Palazzo Pignano (CR) was founded in IV century p.C. The villa is characterized by the presence, beside the pars rustica, of a eight-edged peristilium and of a church with circular plant. In V century the villa is wholly renovated and also the church is provided with a baptism-well, a syntronos and with liturgical furniture that can be compared with same furniture in the oriental area of the Empire. After the “vanishing of the villa”, while the use of the church will be preserved until XI century when it was re-placed by a Romanic parish, in the area of the villa rises a village of huts which use the structure of the villa. In VII century this site is also inhabited by a group of Langbards and by a leader of the élite of this people, as the discovery of a golden seal ring with the name ARICHIS proves. The settlement becomes a curtis of property of the bishop of Piacenza and in XI century constitutes the core of a districtus which was linked to imperial revenue authorities. Archaeological report and written sources confirm the interest that the laic and ecclesiastic élites show for the site.

Gnosi, gnosticismo e nuovi movimenti religiosi: osservazioni storico-religiose / Gnosis, Gnosticism and New Religious Movements: Historical-Religious Observations

MENZAGO, CINZIA 09 March 2009 (has links)

DONAT, PATRIZIA 25 March 2011 (has links)
Dal 90 a.C. all’inizio dell’età imperiale (27 a.C.). / This dissertation analyses the distribution of pottery, both imported and of local production, in the Eastern Cisalpine, from the foundation of Aquileia to the end of the Augustan age. Pottery is used as a means to understand the dynamics of social transformation and cultural development that affect this area through the process of "Romanization". “Spatial archaeology” is used as a methodological reference. The period taken into consideration has been divided in three phases: 1. Foundation of Aquileia (181 B.C.) - 90 B.C. Studied 420 findings from 18 contexts; 2. 90 B.C. - beginning of imperial age (27 B.C.). Studied 786 findings from 89 contexts; 3. Augustan age. Only ceramics already studied for the preceding phases have been analysed, in order to follow the final steps of their productions. Studied 328 findings, from 22 contexts. Studying ceramic has made it necessary to re-consider methods as well as terminology and the relation between form/function/ceramic bodies. Analysed pottery classes: black slip ware, hellenistic relief ware, thin walled pottery, coarse ware, amphorae, lamps, with a special study on coarse ware. Pottery as an indicator enables us to focus some elements of continuity form the Proto-historical substrate (Venetian, local or La Tène) and to recognize new long-range import flows from peninsular Italy and the Mediterranean.

J.-C. - VIe s. apr. J.-C.) / Living and producing in the country of the colony of Valence (IInd B.C. - VIth A.C.)

Gilles, Amaury 12 February 2016 (has links)
During the Antiquity, Valence is known as a roman colony like Lyon, Arles or Vienna, settled in the middle Rhône valley at the confluent of the Rhône and the Isère, and also at the crossroads of alpine route and the Via Agrippa. This strategic position confers to the colony an important role in the economy of the roman Gaul. Since the early Iron Age, this area is a link between the mediterranean and the celtic worlds.Even if the region is conquered by Rome since the end of the II c. B.-C., the colony is founded later, perhaps between 46 and 36 B.-C. and maybe already own his prestigious status of colonia of roman rights according to P. Faure and N. Tran hypothesis (2013). As a consequence of the foundation, the public soil is divided, centuriated, and distributed to thousands of new citizens. In this specific historical context, the citizens are chosen among the veterans of the roman army, who were Italians at this time. This decision should have huge demographic and cultural consequences on local communities. The legal status of the citizens gives them considerable economics advantages that stimulate the local economy. The studies devoted to the gallic provinces have shown that the following centuries see numerous changes affecting settlements and economic structures.Considering this historical context, I have chosen to evaluate the cultural and economic impact of this foundation by studying settlement patterns and material culture (architectural remains, objects of the daily life) between the II c. B.-C. to the VIth c. B.-C.The study of few hundreds of settlements allows us to introduce a complex and diachronic view of the settlements, their economic roles and relations with the colony. The chronological and functional study of the buildings and daily life objects allow us to assess finely the evolution through time about craftsmen’s techniques, lifestyle and highlight regional differences during a same period.
