This thesis provides a critical enquiry into the films of Theo Angelopoulos. Dividing his films into two periods—the one running through the seventies and the other starting with the advent of the eighties—I will examine the representation of history in the first period of Angelopoulos and the metaphor of the journey in his subsequent films. Furthermore, I will trace the development of an aesthetic based on long takes which evokes a particular sense of time in his films. This aesthetic, which is based on the internal rhythm of the shot, inscribes a temporality where past, present, and future coexist in a contemporaneous image. Being free from the requirements of an evolving plot, this image is an autonomous image which allows the passing of time to be felt. Autonomy, which I will define after philosopher Cornelius Castoriadis as an immanent movement towards change, can be also used to describe the process of changing oneself or a given society from within. In exploring the resonances autonomy has, I will make a connection between the social and the cinematic; an attempt which is informed by what Angelopoulos’ films do of their own accord. In this way, I will suggest that Angelopoulos is important not only for the history of film but also for one’s modus vivendi.

Ingeniero Civil Mecánico / El presente trabajo de título entrega el diseño completo e implementación de un sistema de potencia instalado en un vehículo con mecanismo de Theo Jansen, construido por estudiantes del curso ME 5601 Diseño de Sistemas Mecánicos el primer semestre del año 2015. La motivación de este trabajo es aplicar los conocimientos teóricos de la ingeniería mecánica, pasando por la concepción de una idea, su diseño, implementación y finalmente su operación. El trabajo comenzó con el análisis del vehículo disponible, en donde se estudia el diseño y sus principales errores y se diseñan soluciones posibles a las fallas encontradas. Posteriormente, se realiza el diseño del sistema de potencia, para esto se comienza estudiando los requerimientos de potencia para el vehículo y se termina con 2 sistemas de potencia: una transmisión derecha y una izquierda, para esto se utiliza un software CAD. Luego, se construyen las mejoras diseñadas y los 2 sistemas de potencia y se instalan sobre el vehículo disponible. Como resultado se tienen los cálculos de respaldo, el modelo CAD de todo el sistema, planos de construcción y el modelo real. Los cálculos de respaldo muestran que todos los elementos comerciales y manufacturados satisfacen las condiciones de operación. El modelo CAD contiene la información de todos los elementos comerciales y manufacturados. Los planos de construcción ofrecen la información de todo lo construido, en su conjunto, despiece y detalle, para su replicación y estudio. La implementación del diseño realizado tardó 4 meses y tuvo un costo aproximado de $450.000, el modelo completo fue operado sin problemas relevantes. Se concluye que es totalmente factible realizar un diseño e implementación de sistemas relativamente novedosos. Por otro lado, la tecnología en sí, como ha sido construida, posee varias limitantes y la superación de ellas puede llevar a aplicaciones concretas, desde la agricultura a transporte en zonas devastadas con superficies complejas.

The diploma thesis De Stijl and Czech Avant-Garde Art of the 1920's and 1930's focuses on the Dutch art movement De Stijl (1917-1931) and the relationship of its protagonists to the Czech avant-garde scene of the inter-war era; both on the practical as well as theoretical level. The work aims to examine the as yet rather insufficiently mapped interconnection between the creative output of De Stijl's artists, led by the movement founder Theo van Doesburg, and the body of work of Czech artists active in the First Czechoslovak Republic period. The crucial part of the text is grounded in the works of Theo van Doesburg and Karel Teige, leading personalities of the inter-war art scene of the aforementioned countries. The thesis concentrates on selected thematic areas of their wide scope of interests: typography, film, Bauhaus and architecture.

The diploma thesis De Stijl and Avant-Garde Art in the Czechoslovakian Interwar Period focuses on the Dutch art movement De Stijl (1917-1931) and the relationship of its protagonists to the Czech avant-garde scene of the interwar era; both on the practical as well as theoretical level. The work aims to examine the yet rather insufficiently mapped interconnection between the creative output of De Stijl's artists, led by the movement founder Theo van Doesburg, and the body of work of Czech artists active in the First Czechoslovak Republic period. The figures of Theo van Doesburg and Karel Teige are prominent throughout the whole thesis. These two artists were considered as leading personalities and ambassadors of the avant-garde movements in their respective countries. The thesis focuses especially on architecture as the relations between the Dutch and Czech artists were the most salient and most intensive in this area.

The slogan created for the guild was God, Fatherland and Freedom. This work presents a historical study of this party in Goias, Brazil. The approach emphasizes a interplay of representations that party built about Goias. The making of the party in Goiás pervades two clerics enthusiasts catholic cause in political sphere: D. Claudio José Gonçalves Ponce de Leão and D. Eduardo Duarte Silva. We try understand with this approach the force field of theo-political in early Republican Goiás. / O Partido Cathólico foi uma organização de defesa da Igreja diante da ameaça de aniquilamento da Instituição trazida pelos “sectários do ateísmo”. O lema criado para a agremiação era Deus, Pátria e Liberdade. Esta dissertação apresenta um estudo histórico deste grupo em Goiás. A abordagem privilegia o jogo das representações que o partido construía acerca da sociedade goiana e vice-versa. A formação do partido em Goiás perpassa os bispados de dois clérigos entusiastas da causa católica no âmbito político: D. Claudio José Gonçalves Ponce de Leão e D. Eduardo Duarte Silva. Tentamos compreender com esse enfoque o campo de força teo-político nos primórdios do Goiás republicano.

Denna uppsats undersöker hur grafisk formgivning påverkar image. Detta görs genom att se på Dagens Nyheter som exemplum på hur man kan jobba under formgivningsprocessen för att bygga image. Kopplingen mellan begreppet image och det retoriska begreppet ethos diskuteras och kopplas till det retoriska begreppet doxa. En fokusgruppsundersökning har använts som metod för att hämta inspiration till analysen. De teoretiska utgångspunkter på vilken uppsatsen primärt vilar är Daniel Chandlers sammanfattning av semiotikläran, Theo van Leeuwen och Gunther Kress tankar om sociosemiotik, Mats Rosengrens beskrivning av doxa, Jens Kjeldsens redogörelse för ethos, Peggy Brønn Simcic och Øyvind Ihlens förklaringar av image samt tankar om grafisk formgivning presenterade i boken Bild och form för informationsdesign med Rune Pettersson som redaktör. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att formgivningen av en tidning påverkar tidningens image men även dess ethos. Men formgivningen är endast en del i den kommunikationen som påverkar mottagaren. Undersökningen visar även att ethos upplevs olika beroende på doxa och därmed kan den inte med säkerhet fastslå hur tidningens ethos och image påverkas, endast att de gör det.
