J.C) : entre cérémonial politique et pratique culturelle / The official trips and the travels of public personalities in the East from the death of Alexander the Great to the beginning of the Roman Empire (323-30 B.C.) : between political ceremonial and cultural practice

Flamment, Emerik 05 December 2008 (has links)
Through the analysis of the travels of the hellenistic kings and the roman imperatores in the East, this work intends to throw light on the modern concept of official trip and to demonstrate the validity of this category to characterize the travels of these ancient political personalities. Beyond the criterion of the status of the traveller, sources bring to light the discriminating role of the infrastructure of the trip, as well as the importance of public reception in the collective recognition of the official. The inquiry leads to underline the formal and the popular dimension of this kind of trip whose spectacular character contributed to ensure his exceptional impact and turn it into a large-scale local event. As a demonstration of [sovereignty], the official trip was part of a process of legitimization of power and provided the privileged framework for the staging of the political personality : the pageantry and dramatization of the journey as much as [its] major political stakes can be considered as distinctive characteristics of the official trip. This study also raises the problem of the relevance of the public/private dichotomy. The latter is only effective in Rome where the concept of functional trip is attested, but where a confusion of the sphere of the officium and the otium can nevertheless be observed within the travels of the imperatores which were the opportunity of touristic, cultural and religious initiatives revealing the intellectual curiosity of these characters whose study tours and official trips in the East made it possible to satisfy their philhellenism.

Ochrana spotřebitele - klientů proti úpadku cestovních kanceláří - v právu EU / Protection of consumers - customers against the insolvency of tour operators - in EU law

Vysoká, Lenka January 2018 (has links)
Protection of consumers - customers against the insolvency of tour operators - in EU law This thesis examines the legal regulation of consumer protection in the cases of the bankruptcy of travel agencies. In the event of the insolvency of a travel agency, a problem arises as to who will ensure that the consumers are repatriated from summer resorts and their expenses for the unperformed travel services are reimbursed. This issue was first dealt with by Directive No. 90/314 on package travel. The Directive 90/314 will be analyzed in the second chapter of this paper. The Directive leaves a large margin of discretion for national legislators as to how they achieve the required consumer protection standard. However, the EU Member States must ensure that consumers recover the entire loss they have incurred due to the failure of tour operators to provide services. The Member States have come up with a number of implementation solutions - e.g. insurance of the guarantee for the case of insolvency, bank guarantee or guarantee fund of the travel operators. This implementation into national legal systems is described in the third chapter of this thesis. That chapter further introduces the Czech implementation affected in Act No. 159/1999 Coll. This Act has opted for insurance of travel agencies as the means...

Combinatoire des opérateurs non-commutatifs et polynômes orthogonaux / Combinatorics of noncommutative operators and orthogonal polynomials

Hamdi, Adel 20 September 2012 (has links)
This thesis is divided into two parts, the first deals with the combinatorics associated to the normal ordering form of noncommutative operators and the second addresses the symmetric distributions of the crossing numbers and nesting numbers, respectively k-crossings and k-nestings, in combinatorial structures (partitions, permutations, colored permutations, …). The first part studies the normal order of operators in terms of rook placements. We study the normal ordering form connecting two noncommutative operators D and U, and some special orthogonal polynomials, and establish bijonctions between coefficients of (D+U)n and rook placements in Ferrers diagrams. We also give combinatorial proofs and alternatives to some quantum conjectures posed by physicists. In the second part, we define the notions of statistics, nestings and k-nestings, on the sets of permutations of the Coxeter group of type B. We also give extensions to type B of the results of the crossings and nestings, respectivelu k-crossings and K-nestings in the set of permutations of type A, in terms of symmetric distributions. Likewise, we study the link between non-commutative operators and these statistics. Other extensions of the distribution of these statistics on the sets of colored partitions and colored permutations of type A and B are established

Tension under the Sun: Tourism and Identity in Cuba, 1945-2007

Gustavsen, John Andrew 24 August 2009 (has links)
My dissertation on Cuban tourism links political, economic, social, and cultural history to show how the development of tourism on the island between 1945 and 2007 has been crucial in helping to cultivate identities for Cuba and the Cuban people on multiple levels. I focus on three distinct periods - 1945 to 1958, 1959 to 1979, and 1980 to 2007. While significant shifts occurred within each of these three phases, this periodization best illuminates the relationship between tourism development and identity. The fall of the Soviet Union, for example, certainly altered the pace of the industry's growth. Arrivals soared beginning in the 1990s, yet much of the institutional framework for conditioning the relationships between touristic actors had been established years earlier. Cuban planners had begun to target a range of specific markets by 1980, over a decade before the economic strife of the 'Special Period' in the early 1990s virtually forced them to move in this direction. For the entire period between 1945 and 2007, tourism and Cuban identity were linked in two very important ways. Tourism provided a lens for foreign visitors to view the island, its people, and its culture; to know what it meant to be Cuban. As well, the industry offered a framework for powerful interests to control the behaviors of Cuban citizens; to instruct them on how to be Cuban.

Servitja Tormo, Lada 28 November 2012 (has links)
The present research try to analyze the objectively patterns of visitor behavior focused on 5 and 12 years old kids, which visited the museums of the city of Girona in a non organized tour. We combined different methodologies for the data collection: survey, non participant direct observation and symbolic language from offered and self-administered written response. As a result, we know how children interact with museum materials, how they make relations with the different group members, how they use supplementary materials to do the visit, what itinerary they do, how they visit the rooms, what kind of texts they read, in which Units of Attention they provide more interest, what colors attract the most, what effects in their behavior can have the lighting, the noise and the temperature, what are their preferences, and in general, which are the profiles of families who visit the museums of Girona.

New Ways of Seeing: Examining Musuem Accessibility for Visitors with Vision Impairments

Sbarra, Wendy M 12 August 2012 (has links)
While I have always loved to go to the art museum I have often found it difficult to convince friends and family to go with me. It seems to be a particularly daunting task for visitors with disabilities and specifically those with vision impairments. This study surveys the accessibility of the programming for visitors with visual impairments at 25 art museums in the United States of America and how they communicate that information to potential visitors. It highlights museums that go beyond what is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act and create programming that is enjoyable for all. This study will be a reference to create a more enjoyable experience for all.

Crossroads of Enlightenment 1685-1850 : exploring education, science, and industry across the Delessert network

2015 March 1900 (has links)
The Enlightenment did not end with the French Revolution but extended into the nineteenth century, effecting a transformation to modernity. By 1850, science became increasingly institutionalized and technology hastened transmission of cultural exchange. Restricting Enlightenment to solitary movements, philosophic text, or national contexts ultimately creates insular interpretations. The Enlightenment was instead a transnational phenomenon, of interconnected communities, from diverse geographical and cultural spaces. A revealing example is the Delessert family. Their British-Franco-Swiss network demonstrates the uniqueness, extent, and duration of the Enlightenment. This network’s origins lie in the 1680s. French and British desires for stability resulted in contrasting policies. Toleration, through partial rights, let British Dissenters become leading educators, manufacturers, and natural philosophers by 1760. Conversely, Huguenots were stripped of rights. Thousands fled persecution, and France’s rivals profited by welcoming waves of industrious Huguenots. French refugee communities became vital printing centres, specializing in Enlightenment attacks on the Ancien régime, and facilitated the expansion of the Delessert network. The Delessert banking family made a generational progression from Geneva to Lyon to Paris, linking them to Jean-Jacques Rousseau. His friendship fostered passions for botany and education. The Delesserts parlayed this into participation in Enlightenment science and industry, connecting them to the Lunar Society, Genevan radicals, and British reformers. By 1780, a transition toward modernity began. Grand Tours shifted from places of erudition to practical sites of production. Lunar men sent sons to the Continent for practical education, as Franco-Swiss visited English manufactories and Scottish universities to expand knowledge. Moderates greeted the French Revolution with enthusiasm. In the early 1790s this changed significantly. Royalist mobs threatened Lunar men, destroying property, in Birmingham. In France, moderates tried to defend the monarchy from republican mobs. Even so, the network, fragmented both by revolution and war, continued espousing reform and assisting members who were jailed, endangered, or escaping to America. The Delessert network reconnected in 1801. Franco-Swiss toured Britain as Britons visited Paris, gathering at the hôtel Delessert, a crossroads of the Enlightenment. New societies encouraged science, industry, and philanthropy. Enlightenment exchange continued, despite warfare, into the nineteenth century. Industrial partnerships and scientific collaborations, formed during the peace, circumvented trade barriers. Over three generations (1760-1850) cosmopolitanism helped usher in a transition to modernity. Ultimately, the Delessert network’s endurance challenges traditional interpretations of the Enlightenment, and the Industrial Revolution.

Engert, Linda, Dahl, Ida January 2018 (has links)
The competition amongst Swedish companies has significantly increased in recent years, which has contributed to the their increasingly similar offers. The digitization has particularly intensified the competition within the travel industry, which in turn has contributed to companies trying to distinguish themselves through intangible assets and brand differentiation. Forbrands to succeed with their brand differentiation, it requires that consumers are involved with the brands and their offers. Therefore, the aim of this study was to gain an understanding of how consumers involvement affected their ability to distinguish touristic brands. Hence, theories that addressed involvement and brand differentiation were used in this study, to gain an understanding of consumers involvement intraveling and product categories, and thus their ability to distinguish between brands. A qualitative method was therefore used, and four semi-structured focus groups were conducted. The conclusions of this study initially displayed that the consumers should be seen as highly involved in traveling in general, further more they also expressed strong thoughts and feelings about the brands, which implied that the consumers were able to distinguish the brands. However, it was later revealed that the consumers in fact, were not able to differentiate the companies. Although consumers were perceived ashighly involved in traveling, they showed low involvement towards the product category, which contributed to their inability to distinguish the brandsfrom one another.
