ZOO BRNO – TROPICKÝ PAVILON / ZOO BRNO – TROPICAL PAVILON

Malík, Lukáš January 2018 (has links)
The assignment was to create a design of a tropical pavilion at the Brno Zoo. The most important aspect influencing the overall solution is the unique location of the existing pavilion, located at the top of the hill. In the wider area there is a forested landscape. There is an opportunity to build new exhibition spaces with regard to the future development of the zoo. So how to proceed with such assignment? The exhibition of the pavilion focuses on fauna and flora of the rainforest: Central America and the Amazon. The proposal envisages the demolition of the existing pavilion, which is currently unsuitable and obsolete. Part of the new pavilion is also the design of outdoor exposure areas. The main inspiration for the new pavilion was the Mayan Pyramid in the jungle. The outdoor expositions are inspired by the relief of the Amazonian landscape.

Tree spatial pattern in secondary tropical forest - study within the SAFE Project led by European scientists in Borneo

Kvasnica, Jakub January 2014 (has links)
This study, conducted in secondary tropical rainforest in Sabah, Malaysia, is based on data collection using FieldMap technology. All positions of trees (DBH bigger 1 cm) and other attributes were recorded within 24 research plots (25 x 25 m). The aim of this study is to determine any deviation from a random arrangement of trees and nonrandom spatial structures in tree mortality using second order statistics (pair correlation function). All analyses were carried out with the comprehensive software package for conducting spatial point pattern analysis, Programita (developed by Wiegand 2012).

Výskyt extrémních teplot a jejich vliv na výnosové parametry zeleniny v ČR / The incidence of extreme temperatures and their effect on yield parameters of vegetables in the Czech Republic

Švorcová, Petra January 2017 (has links)
The thesis is focused to the occurrence of extreme temperatures in the Czech Republic and monitors their effect on the yield of vegetables. The aim is to prepare a review of literature on the impact of extreme weather conditions on yield and quality of selected vegetables. The thesis is focused on the cultivation of vegetables grown for fruit, namely tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum). Besides meteorological effect they are also taken into consideration environmental conditions, crop rotation, effect of diseases and pests. It is also briefly described growing vegetables, history and specific characteristics of tomato. The research was carried out on areas of the Elbe and the South Moravian vegetable growing region, they are in the Czech Republic for the cultivation of tomato in terms of temperature and favorable natural conditions perfect. For this study, yield data from 1977 to 2015 for the Czech Republic and Central Bohemia has been used. The relationship between yield of tomato and extreme meteorological indices was investigated. It was prepared by descriptive statistics and trend equations yields of tomatoes in the period, together with variations that are designed after pentads and it was created correlation coefficient with range of favorability or unfavourableness individual indices at different growing seasons phonological phases of tomato to its yield. According to the classification of the correlation coefficient is seen that due to the number of dry days of July were both observed area yields were reduced by 41%. It follows that not only extreme temperatures but also reduce rainfall adversely affect tomato yields. As results, we can mentioned that the proceeds of tomatoes are largely influenced not only by the high temperatures and the subsequent drought, as well as heavy rainfall and floods. Based on the results of this study can be confirmed that the extreme temperatures occurring in our vegetable growing region have on the yield of tomatoes adverse effect.

Differences in carbon storage between temperate and tropical forests

Loayza Fernandez, Rolling Richard January 2016 (has links)
Over the years a concern about climate change has shown up, affecting the natural conditions in many ways. Terrestrial biomes are part of the carbon cycle, storing and releasing carbon according to natural and anthropogenic factors. In this case, Temperate and Tropical forests are showing predictable tendencies. This diploma thesis is comparing these two biomes, factors which are influencing carbon storage, the differences between Temperate and Tropical forests, such as characteristics of the stands, forest management, and also external factors like deforestation and forest degradation, and finally proposing practical recommendations how to manage forests to improve carbon storage.

Analýza a optimalizace inventarizačních metod v podmínkách tropického deštného lesa v peruánské Amazonii

Němec, Petr January 2014 (has links)
The submitted work compares results of two forest inventories conducted on the plot of 200 ha within the forestry concession in the tropical rainforest in the Peruvian Amazon. First inventory conducted in 2007 used for field data collection the common method with tapes and mechanical compasses. The second inventory conducted in 2008 used a set of electronic devices, consisting of a field computer, laser rangefinder, electronic compass, a GPS unit and a specialized software Field-Map. In both inventories the positions of all trees with a dbh bigger or equal 400 mm were mapped and following attributes were recorded: position, species, total height, trunk height and dbh. Significant differences were discovered between both methods and the inadequacies were described. The results from the comparison study show that the method conducted using electronic devices is faster and more exact in measurement of tree attributes and in navigation on the plot. However, nor use of this method encompassed to map all the trees and that is why the distance sampling method for population density estimation was used for completion of inventory results. The population map of big trees was created and used for inventory simulations using circular and belt plots of different size and different density with the aim to find most suitable variants. Results of simulated inventories were evaluated regarding their accuracy and time expenses and the variants suitable for use in the zone were suggested.

Implementation of the Czech approach of nature conservation management planning to tropical mountain forest in the Philippines

Kupec, Anna January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the implementation of the Czech approach of nature conservation management planning to the submontane rain forest in the Philippines. This work is based on own research supplemented by literary overview. Two main researched sites in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, as well as the comparative site in Patag, were researched during the September 2017. All the sites were completely inventoried and described the forest structure, tree species composition and other characteristics. The results of the work are a detailed description of both mentioned forest communities in Negros Occidental, the proposal of target forest community and forest management plan for the locality of Don Salvador Benedicto.

Hnízdní a zpěvní aktivita ptáků afrotropického deštného lesa podél gradientu nadmořské výšky / Breeding and singing activity of rainforest birds along an elevational gradient in tropical Africa

Zenklová, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
Tropical areas are usually expected to be a stable environment when compared to the temperate zone. This is true especially for the temperature and the day length which ensure relatively stable food supply. As a consequence, tropical birds, especially rainforest species, are thought to breed all year round. But even in the tropics, breeding can be synchronized with some fluctuating environmental conditions such as rainfall and differences in food supply and breeding and singing activity may occur seasonally in tropical rainforest as well. But the data for testing these assumptions are still scarce. In the first part of my thesis, I focused on the seasonality in breeding activity in various feeding guilds of birds inhabiting tropical rainforest on Mount Cameroon in three different elevations - lowland, submontane and montane forest. The second part focuses on the seasonality in singing activity at both population and species level. I also compared singing activity with the data on breeding activity. The extent of breeding activity differed between feeding guilds and I showed preferences of different guilds to different seasons for breeding. Most of the groups, especially insectivorous birds, bred in the beginning of the dry season, except of species searching for invertebrates on the ground. These...

Tropické deštné pralesy v moderní civilizaci / Tropical rainforests in modern civilization

Suchanová, Veronika January 2009 (has links)
This thesis deals with the selected issues regarding tropical rainforests in modern civilization. It explains what the tropical rainforest is and where it is located. The thesis points at the importance of the tropical rain forestry, and warns of increasing threats primarily due to deforestation. The thesis also shows possible approaches to deal with the issue and presents a practical example of a functional project in real life.
