: vers une simulation multi-agents du trafic routier en milieu urbain / The city under electrodes : from the measure to the evaluation of traffic air pollution : towards a multi-agent simulation of urban road traffic

Emery, Justin 17 November 2016 (has links)
Based on surveys, traffic is constructed from assumptions about the relationship between origins and destinations. In order to rebuild a road traffic wich would be closer to observation and on a wider set of road sections, it appears interesting to use counting data from urban sensors : this is our starting point of view. The insertion of these in-situ dataset in the road traffic measurement provides the opportunity to experience the potential of sensors to estimate Traffic Air Pollution (TAP) levels at the intraurban scale. However, this requires to change the nature of these estimation, here through the construction of a model of multi-agents simulation, in order to extract more information on the road traffic. More generally, this work can be seen as a a knowledge building approach on TAP emisssions which is discussed throughout this work. The implementation of the SCAUP (multi-agent simulation from Urban sensors for traffic air pollution) approach was developped in three stages: 1. Focusing on the quantification of road traffic devices through urban sensors; 2. Proposing a modeling approach for road traffic data simulation ; 3. Using as a reference the national framework used by AASQA to calculate RTA emissions. All is integrated within a technical matrix that forms the spine of the manuscript through three interrelated systems: quantification, modeling and evaluation. This work is part of an experimental approach dedicated to the calculation of TAP emissions based on traffic simulations. Sponsored by the ATMOSF’AIR BOURGOGNE local AASQA, this work could also be used in an operational mode for these organizations in charge of the air quality monitoring. At a time when the big data enters into new questions about the ability of researchers to extract knowledge, we propose a geographical approach that enables to replace the data in the center of an original road traffic simulation approach (data- driven).

Unveiling urban dynamics: An exploration of tools and methods using crowd-sourced data for the study of urban space

López Baeza, Jesús 28 February 2020 (has links)
The following work presents several trans-disciplinary resources for understanding cities beyond just their physical form and spatial processes. The conceptualization of cities from a top-down, modern and post- modern approach to the form-function duality lacks multiple dimensions, which need to be studied in order to gain a proper understanding of how contemporary urban societies perform nowadays. Instead, this work considers settlements as a set of an infinite number of individual perceptions and experiences, which construct overlapping layers of hidden and intangible information that shape cities as complex systems. Social relations that are moving progressively to the virtual realm are becoming major factors in decision-making and location choices by citizens. This definition of a city’s hidden image is developed through the study of data retrieved from online servers. To do so, this work focuses on spatial and temporal activity patterns, values of certain places and their quantitative weight within the urban fabric, the distribution and nature of places, the observation of people’s perception of certain places through the representation of activities captured by pictures posted online, or several other theoretical and methodological approaches under the umbrella of crowd-sourced data in the city.

Bevilacqua, Decio January 2015 (has links)
At different times, researchers have investigated and proposed, with relative success, locational models that explain the origin and the processes of urban growth, but, often, failing to account for the complexity of these systems. Recently, the theories of Complex Systems, New Economic Geography and Urban Configurational Models, have provided concepts with a more consistent rationale for checking variables and the spatial interactions that identify these processes. The Complex Systems framework has provided the concepts of resiliency and self-organized criticality, whereas New Economic Geography has furnished the center-periphery model, which aids in understanding economic and population agglomerations. These approaches support the hypothesis that the relative location of urban services and residents in the intraurban space is subject to centripetal and centrifugal forces, which generate tensions that lead the system toward critical levels for determined periods until new conditions move the system, unexpectedly, to a new threshold. The growth process of the urban system is thus subject to variations in population density and in localization of the different urban services and their economic externalities that exist in the city. The behaviors of these forces were tested in a real situation, in the city of Santa Maria, RS. Population and urban services data were spatialized using a Geographic Information System – GIS and their interactions were evaluated with the use of urban configurational measures to contribute to our knowledge of urban dynamics and the conditions of the various states of the urban system.

Exemple du Grand Sousse en Tunisie littorale / The water and the city in semi-arid climate : towards the management integrated by the resource. Example of Grand Sousse in littoral Tunisia

Sahtout, Nadia 14 March 2011 (has links)
Grand Sousse, oriental part of Sousse governorate, shelters one of the most important regional metropolises of the country, with a concentration on the littoral fringe of the human and economic activities. The demographic explosion and the generalization of the sideboard in drinking water make an important home of water consumption. Now this region is also very marked by the aridity, the main cause of low local resources. Dependent on nearby regions for its water supply, Grand Sousse leads for a long time a running to the harnessing to satisfy growing needs. The traditional political strategy of mobilization and transfers of the resources ending, the future management recommends the extensive appeal to the not conventional resources, some treated waste water and desalinated waters. It is about one of the main control levers of intervention there which Grand Sousse can promote for an "integrated management" of the hydraulic system, besides a management of the demand centred on the savings of water. The thesis mobilized direct inquiries on a representative sample of households, industrial units and hotels; they allowed to draw up balance sheet actions led in the sense of this new orientation, and to understand better the constraints and the met obstacles. The cartographic was a tool indispensable to the representation of this inadequacy between supply and demand in water, the network of supply and distribution, and constituents of the future management of the water. The forward-looking approach allows pulling the air-raid siren at the threat that makes weigh the trend-setting evolution of the demand on the socio-spatial balances, and proposes alternative solutions of this evolution.

Modelling urban dynamics of a diverse elderly population with an empirically grounded agent-based model

Haacke, Hannah 20 September 2022 (has links)
In the last years, more elderly with diverse backgrounds live in cities due to demographic changes. However, there exist no models which simulate the spatial behaviour of the elderly even though they have a smaller range of action and are more dependent on their surrounding infrastructure. At the same time, there is no research on how the combination of different variables affects their willingness to move and no datasets that provide sufficient information are available. This research developed a workflow, to model the urban dynamics of a diverse elderly population (>=65 years) with an empirically grounded agent-based model for the example of Berlin. First, a survey was conducted, along with expert interviews and literature research, to derive variables and reasons that lead to relocation. Additionally, an existing framework was adapted to derive diverse agents. The population was grouped with a cluster analysis into agent typologies (AT) with the same basic relocation behaviour. The resulting artificial population was evaluated with expectations derived from literature research and expert interviews. Afterwards, spatial information was added with a spatial microsimulation. Because age and support networks were identified as the most important factors for relocation, these variables were included as weights for the calculation of the relocation probability of every individual agent. The simulation output was compared to real population data. Furthermore, changes in the spatial distribution were evaluated based on a segregation index. It is shown that ATs do not segregate themselves spatially and the resulting model is robust. The approach can be adapted to other cities because it is based on data which is available in other regions. Furthermore, the model can be a basis for more detailed agents or more complex behaviour rules. In the end, the thesis provides an approach to model a diverse population with its behaviour rules.
