Political parties and the democratization process in Cameroon

Nchanji, Desmond Nsalar January 2019 (has links)
ABSTRACT This thesis investigates the role of opposition political parties in the democratization process in Cameroon via the prism of the electoral process. Some of the African countries achieved reasonable democracy while others have either stagnated, are regressing or have transformed into what Levistky describes as Hybrid regimes or competitive authoritarian regimes. The transition in Cameroon was flawed from the beginning of the democratization process in 1991. The opposition parties in Cameroon have been constantly calling for a consensual electoral process. The electoral process has evolved considerably but much still has to be done to achieve an ideal electoral process. A critical qualitative analysis and assessment of the role of opposition political parties in the democratization process through the spectrum of the electoral process. A consensual electoral code is one of the aspects of democracy and one of the most effective means of ending internal conflicts

Volební kampaň a její limity / The election campaign and its limits

Vybíralová, Jana January 2013 (has links)
As mentioned above, this master thesis is focused on some processes which an election campaign is affected by. In the first place, it analyses processes and trends which are typical for the legal regulation of election campaigns in the Czech Republic. My approach to this topic is centered on restrictive parameter limits which influence election campaigns. The core of the master thesis is naturally aimed at the field of law. The aim of the master thesis is to present basic knowledge of the matter which is still topical in the Czech society based on the fact that elections are held quite often. The master thesis can therefore serve as a source of information for further analysing election campaigns whose main purpose is to win the biggest voters' support. The master thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one concerns a theoretical background of election campaigns. The second one examines an election campaign itself, its legal regulation de lege lata respectively. The third chapter studies general principles relative to conducting an election campaign. The final chapter reflects the current situation in the Czech Republic as regards the direct presidential election.

Senát Parlamentu České republiky optikou voličů: Analýza instituce z perspektivy historie, volební účasti a volebního systému / Czech Senate in perception of electors. The Analysis in View of History, Voter Turnout and Electoral System

Navrátil, Marek January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in view of history, voter turnout and electoral system. The main purpose of the thesis is to present the Senate in terms of broad perspective, based on the analysis of selected parts of the political system. The thesis is a case study which includes an analysis of the Czech Constitution preparations, a voter turnout analysis with the main purpose to present crucial trends and simulation of some variations of qualified plurality rule on existing electoral results of the Senate elections. There is also the theory of bicameralism presented as a part of the theoretical part in the thesis. Based on the analysis the thesis presents extensive conclusions. In the view of history there are historical and ideological circumstances and also political demands of participants in the case of proposing the institution of Senate. The main conclusion on the view of voter turnout is that since 2008 there has been a continual decrease, particularly in run-off. The thesis brings two groups of solution in order that the Senate elections voter turnout might increase. First, technical changes in the electoral act could be made, and second, the whole electoral system in terms of single-round option could be changed. Based on the simulation,...

Média a předvolební výzkumy: kvantitativní obsahová analýza vybraných českých deníků před volbami do PSP ČR v roce 2010 / Media and pre-election polls:quantitative analysis of the Czech major daily newspapers before parliamentary elections in 2010

Kálalová, Kateřina January 2012 (has links)
The thesis titled Media and Pre-Election Polls: Quantitative Analysis of the Czech Major Daily Newspapers before Parliamentary Elections in 2010, deals with the manner in which the media grasp and process the results of opinion polls focused on the theme of elections, namely pre-election polls. The attitude of the author toward this topic is based on the agenda setting theory, which assumes that the media can, to some extent, set the topics and thus determine how (and that) the audience think about them. In the case of publication of pre- election surveys can therefore media, to some, but hardly detectable extent, influence the citizens-voters. For this reason it is important to focus on how exactly the mass media work with the statistic data and how they make them available to the wide public. Media coverage of these data should be complete and clear in order to prevent misinterpretation and for the data to be correctly handled. Through the quantitative content analysis of media outputs (in total 74 articles) from the five most popular Czech daily newspapers in the period January to May 2010 it was researched if the media work with pre-election polls results properly. Based on the analysis and its results, the recommendations were concluded for the situation to be improved.

Volební systém do poslanecké sněmovny v ČR: geneze, vývoj a jeho další směřování / The electroral system for the Chamber of Deputies of Czech Republic: genesis, evolution and its future direction

Peškar, Michal January 2012 (has links)
This final thesis deals with electoral system to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Its genesis, evolution and future are presented in 3 chapters and in the Conclusion. Work is designed as a case-study and it employs two methods - from general to particular, and from earlier to later. These methods are used in whole work as well as in particular chapters and subchapters. The first chapter introduces readers to the issue of electoral system in general. There are described two main voting systems - proportional and majority vote. Stress is put to the proportional system which has used for elections to the Chamber of Deputies. Also the question "which electoral system is the best" is mentioned. Following chapter surveys history of the electoral system and evolution from its establishment to the present. Main part of this chapter deals with a reform introduced in the year 2000 which was declared by the Constitutional Court as unconstitutional. New law, instead of blank spaces after the decision of the Constitutional Court, was adopted in the year 2002 and since that it has been valid till the present. The third chapter presents proposals of electoral reform from the year 2008 prepared by a group of experts on the basis of political assignment of contemporary Government....

Volební systém ve volbách do PS PČR a jeho možná změna / The electoral system of elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the CR and its potential changes

Šochman, Václav January 2013 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis is to verify hypotheses that the current legal framework of election law is in accordance with constitutional principles. Furthermore, author's intention is to highlight parts of the statute which may violate the Constitution. Such verification or rejection of hypotheses is deduced from the answers on the research questions, for instance if the voting system used within the course of the election to the Czech House of Representatives and if is desirable to modify the voting system and, if relevant in what manner (by what means). In order to answer these questions, the author applied the method of analyzing primary and secondary information sources, their interpretation and deduction of relevant conclusions. This thesis is divided into twelve chapters (incl. preface and conclusion, resume and bibliography) provided that the merit of the work can be found from chapter five to chapter eight. The second chapter is devoted to theoretical elaboration of individual voting systems. The following chapter discusses the evolution of the voting system used within the course of Czech and Czech-Slovak parliamentary elections in the 20th century. Fourth section of this paper is dedicated to constitutional establishment of the voting system used within the actual Czech parliamentary...

Návrh metodologické optimalizace volebního modelu Median na základě poznatků Czech Household Panel Study / Methodological Optimization of the Median Research Agency's Likely Voter Model Based on Findings from Czech Household Panel Study

Kunc, Michal January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this graduate thesis is proposing an optimization of the likely voter model parameter values utilized by Median (research agency) based on secondary analysis of data from the third wave and post-election follow-up of the Czech Household Panel Study 2017 and the Median omnibus survey. The theoretical chapter presents selected aspects of the analyzed likely voter model parameters. Secondary data analysis confirms hypotheses regarding the relationships of: 1) voter turnout, prior voting behavior and the intent to vote, 2) pre-election voting preferences and actual voting behavior, 3) reported prior voting behavior and time elapsed since the prior election. Hypotheses are confirmed, and analysis results are utilized in construction of an optimized likely voter model. This model's results are then compared to the results of four currently or formerly published likely voter models (MEDIAN, CVVM2017, CVVM2018, KANTAR), all computed using an identical dataset (September/October 2017 Median omnibus survey). Based on prior-set comparison criteria, the proposed model has the highest ranking out of all the compared models. Areas of future research proposed, namely exploring the relationship between prior voting behavior misreporting and voting preference trends, in accordance with cognitive...
