SEEING WITH NEW EYES: A COSTUME DESIGN THESIS ON WEDDING BAND: A LOVE/HATE STORY IN BLACK AND WHITEHelms, Jennifer Nielson 01 May 2024 (has links) (PDF)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OFJennifer N. Helms, for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Design, presented on March 26, 2024, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: SEEING WITH NEW EYES: A COSTUME DESIGN THESIS ON WEDDING BAND: A LOVE/HATE STORY IN BLACK AND WHITEMAJOR PROFESSOR: Wendi R. Zea This thesis document is a presentation and exploration of the process involving the costume design for Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White by Alice Childress. The play was produced in the Christian H. Moe Laboratory Theatre at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and ran from November 30 – December 10, 2023. This dramatic play explores the complexities of racism, prejudice, alienation, love in all forms, and the value of female kinship. It reminds us that fear brings out the very real ugliness of hate; while leading with love gives us strength to stand up with dignity, courage to face the ugly, and motivation to push through the bitterness of heartache to take care of the ones we love. Chapter 1 contains the research, background information, and script analysis that was conducted to prepare and inform the design of the costumes. This chapter also highlights the goals I wanted to achieve within my design and on a personal level. Chapter 2 focuses on the design process and how the costume design evolved through collaboration, continued research, and discussion. Chapter 3 documents the production process of the design and how it progressed to realization, including an examination of the dress rehearsals and the production’s performances. Chapter 4 records an analysis of the entire design and its evolution through outside critiques, commentary, and self-reflection.

Previous issue date: 2015-03-25 / The work objective was to investigate the consumption material, symbolic and affective present in the wedding party, and to recognize the consumer goods such as social and ritual this time exposed on Instagram markers, understanding the wedding party as a privileged space of consumption and memory. This is a qualitative research whose research instruments were the literature, the main theoretical frameworks work of Douglas and Isherwood, understanding the consumer as ritual; Rose Rocha, on consumer images and still articulated the concept of memory culture, ritual and celebration, through the work of Yuri Lotman, of Jerusha Ferreira, Monica Nunes, Ecléa Bosi, among other authors that link the interconnection of memory autobiographical and cultural; documentary research, which consisted of the removal of the wedding party photos on Instagram. Two brides Instagram users were chosen by purposive sampling, because they have in their profiles significant amounts of pictures of the wedding party to be analyzed, exposing the various wedding ritual steps on Instagram and other festivities that are part of it. By studying the images, it was observed that the brides memories bolster a logic of consumption, in which the goods and objects contribute to this joint.

Kärlek som statsangelägenhet : En kvantitativ undersökning av tidningsartiklar publicerade under det kungliga bröllopet 2010 / Love as a state affair : A Quantitative study of published texts during the Swedish crown wedding 2010Bressler, Sofia, Hermansson, Maria January 2010 (has links)
2010 was the year of the wedding between Sweden’s crown princess Victoria and Daniel Westling. Although the wedding was partly financed with tax payer’s money, the newspapers did not investigate it further. The main theme of the published articles was lighter and with an entertainment value rather than finding out what the tax money really went. We read two of Sweden’s biggest newspapers, one morning paper (Dagens Nyheter) and one evening paper (Aftonbladet) and counted the articles that contained information about the wedding 1st June – 25th June. 93 percent of the 137 articles in Aftonbladet did not have any critical content at all. Dagens Nyheter published 48 articles during the same period and the percentage of non-critical content was 86 percent. We also divided the articles into different categories for example wedding dress, weather and safety. This to find out what the newspapers choose to write about.

H. K. H. Tepåse och andra souvenirer : Dokumentation av en samling minnesföremål från kronprinsessparets bröllop år 2010 / Her Royal Highnesses the Tea Bag and Other Souvenirs : A documentation of a collection of memorabilia from the Crown Princess Couple's Wedding in 2010Krumlinde, Johanna January 2011 (has links)
This thesis is a report of the practical aspects and the problems of classification and documentation of a collection of memorabilias from the Crown Princess Couple's Wedding in Stockholm 2010. The collection contains 38 objects collected by Nordiska museet [The Nordic Museum], Sweden's largest museum of cultural history. Nordiska museet has a total collection of over 1,5 million items collected since 1873. My ambition in this thesis has been to describe my work with the classification and documentation of these new objects and their context. One of the main problems was how to combine the modern objects with the old existing collection within the two classification systems used at the museum. Four case studies were made toillustratethe different types ofproblems that occurred and the solutions found.I have also highlightedthe importance of being coherent when working with documentation and some of the consequences of classification.
