The psychodynamic implications of battering : a review of empirical research

Hendricks, Melany L 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2001. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This paper aims to provide an understanding of the psychodynamic implications of battering on the victims of this form of abuse. Three dominant approaches to trauma (one descriptive, one explanatory and one phenomenological) are briefly discussed. Available empirical data is then explored to ascertain whether the empirical research correspond to these dominant theories. The research indicates that the theories all highlight different aspects of battering and all have important implications for treatment.

Privacy, Professionalism, and the Female Lawyer

Kanzler, Katja 07 February 2017 (has links) (PDF)
"The legal drama – a staple of American popular culture – has evolved as one of the "masculine" genres in the gendered landscape of television culture. A type of workplace drama focusing on professional settings historically dominated by men, it traditionally dramatizes "a world where men played the only important parts and where male bonding and inter-male conflict were dominant elements in the narrative," to adapt Kenneth MacKinnon’s general observations about "masculine" tv (69). Yet the gendering of the (traditional) legal drama goes well beyond the ubiquity of male characters: It is deeply ingrained in the figuration of the lawyer that classic instances of the genre established..." / "Der vorliegende Beitrag ist die pre-print Version. Partnernas upplevelser av att leva med en person med demenssjukdom. : En litteraturöversikt. / Partners' experiences of living with a person with dementia. : A literature review

Myrta, Arbnesha, Smoljan, Martina January 2017 (has links)
Background: Dementia is a collective term for various symptoms and changes in the brain. It is associated with increasing age but is not part of the normal aging process. There is no cure for dementia only symptomatic treatment. Dementia affects not only the individual with dementia but also the partner. Conflicts arose because of misunderstanding and lack of knowledge. The care of a person with dementia was demanding and difficulty in satisfying their own and the needs of their life partner became part of everyday life. Aim: The aim was to describe the partners ' experiences of living with a person with dementia. Method: Literature review with qualitative design and deductive approach. Antonovsky's concept of comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness has been used as a theoretical reference framework. Scientific articles have been analyzed according to Friberg's five-step model. Results: Partners experience lack of information and support from health care professionals. They feel fear, guilt and anxiety because of the uncertainty surrounding the progression of the disease and the future. Life was difficult to manage and frustrating due to loss of the person they have lived with. Despite various restrictions found in the partner situation and purpose created strategies that motivated them to continue caring for their life partner. Conclusions: The caring partners ' health, everyday lives and futures were affected by living with a demented life partner. The partners risked their own health, lost meaningful social intercourse, and felt uncertainty about the future. Despite that, many partners would continue to take care of their life partner.

The Constant Wife Revisited: The Progression of a Play from Conception to the Final Stage Production

Parkin, Kimberly H. 01 January 2007 (has links)
For my thesis, I recorded the progression of my show, The Constant Wife. I discuss the conception of my original scene design as well as the changes that occurred while working with the director and other designers. Throughout the thesis, I address the problems that arose during the pre-production, what I did to rectify those situations, and what I might have done differently if given the opportunity. I have divided the thesis into the following sections – Process of the Pre-Production, Execution of the Design and Evaluation of the Design. The final section of my thesis details what I learned from the events that transpired and how I can apply those lessons to future designs. Several appendixes are included that give various pieces of information that I used to develop my design as well as the majority of my research, including a larger version of the images in this paper, my drafting, and photos of the finished set. This document was created in Microsoft Word MAC.

Sedláčková, Magdalena January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of my thesis is to analyze the institute discharge of the debt as the way of solution of bankruptcy according to Act No. 182/2006 Coll., on Bankruptcy and its solution (Insolvency Act). The thesis concerns all the phases of the process of discharge of the debt, from the proposal of permission of the discharge of the debt until its accomplishment. The thesis focuses on relevant legal regulation and case law. I also present the institute of discharge of debt of husband and wife which is quite often used without any legal support. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The Chapter One deals with the proposal of permission of the discharge of the debt. It examines particularly the subjects who are authorized to submit it and possible decisions of the court including the reasons for its dismissal. In the next Chapter I investigate two possible ways of discharge of the debt, the liquidation of the debtor's assets and monthly payment of a specific amount. For each type the affected assets and advantages and drawbacks for the debtor are described. The possibility for creditors to vote about type of discharge of the debt is also discussed. The Chapter Three relates to the decision of approval of discharge of the debt which has specific essentials and effects and means a lot of duties for the...

The relationships between abuse, work social support, value-rich work and intrapersonal coping resources in employed women

Baumann, Chiara 14 July 2016 (has links)
A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partial fulfilment for the requirements of the degree of Master of Arts. / The present research aimed to illustrate a link between the two domains of work and abuse. It was an investigation into "the various relationships which exist between spouse abuse and intrapersonal and alternative interpersonal coping resources in employed women. The intrapersonal coping resources identified in past literature and currently examined included self-esteem and level of depression. Alternative interpersonal resources provided by the work sphere were also included for investigation; namely work social support and value-rich work. Amixed quantitative-qual itative research design yielded measures on the five variables of spouse abuse, self-esteem, depression, work social support, and value-rich work; as well as on the two dimensions of physical and non-physical violence, and an additional variable of work support obtained from counselling programmes. The final sample consisted of 106 female employees from a variety of occupational groups. A content analysis of information regarding workplace counselling programmes and its effect on self-esteem and depression generated insignificant results. However, quantitative analyses via Pearson's Product MomentCorrelation Coefficients, one-way ANOVA's and multiple moderated regressions, illustrated very strong support for the remaining hypotheses. This implied that significant relationships did exist between abuse and the coping resources of self-esteem, depression. work support and value-rich work.
