碩士 / 國立高雄師範大學 / 特殊教育學系 / 106 / The aim of this study were investigate those tinnitus patient using self-help book for treatment without professional’s intervention. We had use tinnitus questionnaires to evaluate the efficiency of self-help book for tinnitus.
8 participants passed a pre-test criteria, and randomly assigned into experimental group or control group, each group had 4 patients. Experimental group was given into 6 weeks of self-help book training. Control group was given into 6 weeks of Verbotonal Speech Treatment. After 6 weeks, all participants were asked to complete a postintervention assessment of audiologic evaluation and tinnitus questionnaires (1st post-test) experimental group finished the study as the same time. The control group will then received the same self-help book due to research ethics. Follow-up assessment was arranged on the following 2 weeks for the control group (2nd post-test). The experimental group was composed of 1 woman and 3 men, the mean age of participants was 38.75 years old. The control group is composed of 3 women and 1 man, the mean age of participants was 47 years old. Both group has 3 unilateral tinnitus patient and 1 bilateral tinnitus patient.
The result of pre-test was compared by average score, the experimental group has higher score than control group in all test, except Chinese vision Tinnitus Reaction Questionnaire. When compared with severity, the analysis result of the Chinese vision of Tinnitus Handicap Inventory had showed that control group had higher severity. In other words, the tinnitus distress in the two groups have diffferent performance, not a group significantly higher than the other group.
Interventions using different material were done in experimental group and control group. Three indices were use to determine the effectiveness of pre-test and post test in both group. The first index: Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank, experimental group was more relief than control group according to the Chinese vision Tinnitus Reaction Questionnaire (100% vs 75%) and Chinese vision Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (75% vs 50%). The second index: clinical improvement, experimental group had more significant improvement than control group only found in Chinese vision Tinnitus Functional Index (50 % vs 25 %). The third index: severity grading, was similar to the second index, decreasing severity grading was found more in the experimental group than control group according to Chinese vision Tinnitus Functional Index(50 % vs 25 %) .
After control group using 2 weeks of self-help book, three indices were use to determine the effectiveness of pre-test and post test (pre-test vs 2nd post-test). The first index: Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank had found all participants (100 %) was getting relief in all tinnitus questionnaires. The second index: clinical improvement, 3 participants (75%) had significant improvement in Chinese vision Tinnitus Reaction Questionnaire and Chinese vision Tinnitus Functional Index, all participants (100 %) had significant improvement in Chinese vision Visual analogue scale. The third index, severity grading, all participants (100 %) severity had decreased grading in Chinese vision Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, 3 participants (75%) severity had decreased grading in Chinese vision Tinnitus Functional Index.
After reading the self-help book in two groups, a total of 87.5 % of the cases were improved.
