Folkbibliotek skiljer sig från andra arenor som skolor och arbetsplatser eftersom de har en mer vidsträckt geografisk och demografisk räckvidd. Att folkbiblioteken riktar sig till många olika målgrupper innebär en potential att nå ut med folkhälsoinsatser. Denna studie har haft för avsikt att utifrån bibliotekspersonalens perspektiv, erfarenheter och uppfattningar undersöka om Stockholms stadsbibliotek är en möjlig arena för folkhälsoarbete. Studien har en kvalitativ design och data samlades in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer. Deltagarna var elva biblioteksanställda personer. Insamlad data analyserades genom en kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Intervjumaterialet kategoriserats efter de nationella folkhälsomålen och folkhälsopolitiska målområdena. Resultatet visar att Stockholms stadsbibliotek arbetar med de nationella folkhälsomålen genom att utföra sina egna uppdrag. Uppfattningarna om vilka målområden som var mest/minst relevanta för biblioteket att arbeta med samt i vilken utsträckning biblioteket bör ägna sig åt folkhälsoarbete skilde sig något mellan informanterna. Möjligheter som informanterna uppmärksammade med att använda biblioteket som arena för folkhälsoarbete var bibliotekets lokaler, bokbestånd och personalen. Hinder däremot var främst ekonomiska resurser. Om biblioteket ska ta på sig att arbeta med folkhälsa behövs ökade resurser och adekvat kunskap hos bibliotekspersonalen. En fördel med biblioteket som arena är att den riktar sig till en bred målgrupp och dessutom fångar upp socioekonomiskt svagare grupper och socialt utsatta människor. För att lyckas med implementeringen av folkhälsoinsatser på Stockholms stadsbiblioteket krävs utöver resurser och kunskap, sannolikt även ett ökat fokus på målinriktning, utvärdering och samordning inom organisationen. / Public libraries differ from other arenas like schools and workplaces since they have a more widespread geographical and demographical reach. This speaks for the potential of public libraries to reach a variety of target groups with public health interventions. This study has aimed to investigate whether the Stockholm Public Library is a possible arena for public health promotion, through the perspective of library staff. The study design was qualitative and data was gathered through semi-structured interviews. The participants consisted of eleven library staff members. The collected data was analysed through a qualitative content analysis. The material from the interviews was categorised after the Swedish national public health goals and the public health target areas. The results show that the Stockholm Public Library is working with the national goals for public health, through fulfilling their own mission. Ideas regarding which of the public health target areas were most/least important for the library to work with, as well as to what extent, differed between participants. Possibilities with using the library as an arena for public health promotion, put forward by the library staff, were the premises and books of the library, as well as the staff and their knowledge. The main obstacle mentioned was a lack of financial resources. If the library is to take on public health promotion, increased resources and adequate knowledge would be necessary. A benefit of the library as an arena would be that it reaches a wide target audience, including socio economically weaker groups and socially vulnerable people. In order to succeed with the implementation of public health initiatives within the Stockholm Public Library, this study suggests an increased focus on specific target goals, evaluation and coordination within the organisation as well as increased financial resources and knowledge.
