Several editions of each of these five tracts separately appeared in 1712; they were reprinted, divided into two parts in vol. II of Pope's and Swift's Miscellanies (1727) under title: Law is a bottomless pit, or The history of John Bull. Later editions have followed this arrangement and since that time the work has usually been called by its second title: The history of John Bull. The editor ascribes the authorship of the pamphlets to Dean Swift. Bibliography: p. 249-250.
