Previous issue date: 2011-04-13 / The present study sought to understand the place that parents take in the process of raising
children, as well as their perception about this process. One of the features that are
observed contemporarily are the diversity and the complexity of the interpersonal
relationships. In this sense, we live in a moment of doubt on what concerns being in the
world, where social and family roles are less defined. Thus, it is necessary to understand
how the family has adapted itself to these changes and how the conflicts that underlie these
relationships have been characterized. As a consequence, it is understood that the
relationship between parents and children is to mediate the development of the subjectivity
of the individual. This is a qualitative research and makes use of psychoanalysis as a
theoretical background necessary for understanding the subjectivity of the subjects studied.
Two low middle class families of Goiânia participated in this survey and both had teenage
children studying at the same school. The interview was conducted with each member
separately, in a total of six subjects. From the core of the meaning of the subjects, we tried
to capture the meaning of the word family to each one as well as a sense of being a father
and a mother. It was observed that both families made an idealized representation of
themselves, showing a contradiction between the ideal and the real family. In addition to
these data, other categories that were created from the speech of the participants were: the
difficulty of parents to raise their children, to impose limits, the relation of symmetry, and
the absence of references in the process of education, among others. In conclusion, it was
found that today parents have no clear references when it comes to raise their children, and
the data also showed the difficulties of establishing the authority over their children. The
children, in turn, exposed their resentment at the absence of their parents when they are at
work. / O presente trabalho buscou compreender o lugar que os pais têm ocupado no processo de
criação/educação dos filhos, bem como a percepção dos mesmos sobre esse processo. Uma
das características que se observa na contemporaneidade são a diversidade e complexidade
das relações interpessoais. Nesse sentido, vivemos em um momento de dúvidas quanto ao
ser e estar no mundo, onde os papéis sociais e familiares estão cada vez menos definidos.
Assim, se faz necessário entender como a família vem se adaptando a essas transformações
e como tem se configurado os conflitos que permeiam essas relações. Deste modo,
entende-se que a relação entre pais e filhos é mediação para o desenvolvimento da
subjetividade do individuo. A presente pesquisa enquadra-se no tipo qualitativo e utilizouse
a psicanálise como aporte teórico necessário para a compreensão da subjetividade dos
sujeitos pesquisados. Os participantes da pesquisa foram duas famílias de Goiânia, ambas
de classe média baixa e com filhos adolescentes da mesma escola, a entrevista foi realizada
com cada membro separadamente, totalizando seis sujeitos. A partir dos núcleos de
significação dos sujeitos, apreenderam-se o significado de familia para cada um bem como
o sentido de ser pai e mãe. Verificou-se que ambas as famílias fizeram uma representação
idealizada da mesma, demonstrando uma contradição entre a familia ideal e a família real.
Além desses dados, outras categorias que foram criadas a partir do discurso dos
participantes foram: a dificuldade dos pais de educar, de impor limites, as relações de
simetria, a ausência de referências no processo de educar, entre outros. Como conclusão,
verificou-se que os pais hoje se encontram sem referências claras na hora de educar e
revelam as dificuldades de demonstrar a autoridade que lhe cabem apresentar junto a seus
filhos. Os filhos por sua vez, expuseram o ressentimento pela ausência dos pais no período
em que estão no trabalho.
