This thesis focuses on designing a method to assess work by people with disabilities on woodworking machines. Firstly, the disability itself was analysed to give us an overall picture of the issue: the distribution and restrictions of the disability, legislation, state support, and research into sheltered and social & therapeutic workshops. The next part focuses on procedures to create a safe working environment, to ensure occupational safety, ergotherapy and diagnostic methods used to determine the extent of the restrictions resulting from the disability. The main part of the thesis proposes a methodological approach that will enable the establishment of the conditions under which a person with a disability can safely perform predetermined machining work. The method has been practically verified in the sheltered workshop ‘V růžovém sadu’, where it enabled a worker with a disability to perform machining work.
