La présente thèse a pour objet la proposition d’un dispositif renouvelé d’initiation chrétienne pour les personnes baptisées dans l’enfance. Elle situe d’abord la question de l’initiation chrétienne au Québec aujourd’hui. Prenant acte de la requête de l’Église catholique de considérer le catéchuménat comme modèle de toute initiation chrétienne, et parcourant l’histoire du catéchuménat, elle fait le pont entre les intuitions qui présidèrent à sa restauration par Vatican II et celles des siècles qui le virent naître. Le nœud de la recherche consiste alors à mettre en évidence les éléments fondamentaux d’une démarche catéchuménale, éléments qui devraient être présents dans toute initiation chrétienne. Puisqu’une authentique initiation chrétienne constitue une démarche de construction identitaire, faisant ainsi écho à l’un des traits dominants de la culture occidentale actuelle, on peut donc proposer un certain nombre de réaménagements majeurs quant à la structure globale et aux principes directeurs d’un dispositif d’initiation chrétienne pour les plus jeunes, prenant pour modèle le catéchuménat; il se présente comme une proposition crédible dans la situation socioreligieuse actuelle. / The Catholic Church states that any Christian initiation should take as a model the process proposed for adults : the catechumenate. This thesis first situates the issue of Christian initiation in Québec today. It proposes an analysis of the different concepts involved, including the concept of “model”. Then, going through the history of the catechumenate in order to show the links between the main principles of the catechumenate of the first centuries and those that guided its restoration by the Second Vatican Council, it underlines the essential elements of a catechumenal process, and thus what should be present in every initiation process. A sociological reflection follows, examining the admissibility within today’s socioreligious context, of a new Christian initiation process. This leads to the formulation of some propositions concerning the global structure and the guiding principles of a renewed process for Christian initiation that would be clearly inspired by the essential elements of the catechumenate.
