La construction des subjectivités dans les espaces postcoloniaux reste une thématique assez complexe à explorer du fait de la coexistence en leur sein, de multiples sources de normativité. Dans l'espace éwé au Sud-Togo, l'individu évolue dans un environnement où il est à la fois sollicité par les normes de son traditionnel univers culturel, celles de la modernité mondialisée, mais aussi des sphères normatives plus structurées comme le christianisme, la Franc-maçonnerie, etc. La présente recherche s'est penchée sur les conditions de possibilités d'une subjectivité catholique dans un tel contexte. Cette question est problématisée dans l'association initiatique catholique, l'Ordre de Marshall. Par une démarche ethnographique et sur la base d'une approche interprétative, j'ai montré que pour se construire comme sujets chrétiens, les membres de l'Ordre de Marshall s'engagent dans un effort pour établir des connexions entre des situations paradoxales à première vue. Un tel mode de subjectivation s'inscrit dans la logique du fonctionnement généralement attribué aux des ontologies analogiques qui mobilisent une série de polarités dans leurs organisations du mobilier du monde. La subjectivité marshallienne émerge tant, dans la quête de la réflexivité que dans la recherche de la socialité. Au même moment où elle est résolument engagée dans la quête des savoirs qui régissent le monde, une telle subjectivité se plaît à organiser ces savoirs en un jeu de secrets bien protégés, source d'écarts différentiels entre les individus. La subjectivité catholique marshallienne se déploie entre une transcendance à laquelle elle se voue entièrement et une immanence radicale qui donne sens aux engagements du sujet dans l'Ordre. Enfin, alors qu'elle convoite une sorte d'autonomie, une telle subjectivité se construit dans un assujettissement à Dieu et à sa Parole, aux entités angéliques, aux saints et saintes, mais aussi, dans une certaine soumission aux ainés de l'Ordre. De même, l'identification des chrétiens à Dieu reste influencée par ce contexte marqué par la dichotomie Dieu\Satan. D'où l'idée centrale de cette thèse, le sujet catholique marshallien se construit à travers un ensemble de pratiques paradoxales, dues à l'évolution de son histoire particulière. La conversion au christianisme dans cette perspective implique une logique, tout aussi paradoxale. Elle entraîne l'idée d'une continuité de soi, en même temps qu'une transformation progressive de son être, suivant l'idéal chrétien. / The construction of subjectivities in postcolonial areas remains a fairly complex theme to explore due to the coexistence within them of the domination of multiple sources of normativity. In the area occupied by the Ewe ethnic group in South Togo, the individual evolves in an environment where he is both challenged by the standards of his cultural universe, those of the globalized modernity, but also those of more structured spheres such as Christianity, Freemasonry, etc. The present research has examined the possible influences of Catholic subjectivity in such a context, problematizing the question in the Catholic initiatory association called the Order of Marshall. Using an ethnographic approach and on the basis of an interpretative method, I have shown that, in order to build themselves as Christian subjects, the members of the Marshallian Order are engaged in an effort to establish connections between situations that appear paradoxical at first. Such a mode of subjectivation is in line with the logic of the operation generally attributed to analogic ontology. The latter mobilizes a series of polarities in the way it organizes the world's furniture. Marshallian subjectivity emerges both in a quest for reflexivity as well as in the search for sociality. At the same time as it is resolutely engaged in the quest for the knowledge that governs the world, this knowledge is organized into a game of well-protected secrets, which become a source of differential status between individuals. Marshallian Catholic subjectivity unfolds between a transcendence to which the individual is entirely devoted and a radical immanence that gives meaning to the subject's commitments in the Order. Finally, while it covets a kind of autonomy, such subjectivity is built in a subjugation to God and His Word, to angelic entities, to saints, but also a certain submission to the elders of the Order. The very identification of the individual with God seems to take its meaning only in this context marked by the dichotomy of God versus Satan. Hence the central idea of this thesis, the Marshallian Catholic subject is built through a set of paradoxical practices, due to the evolution of its particular history. Conversion to Christianity, from this perspective, implies a logic, just as paradoxical. It leads to the idea of a continuity of self, at the same time as a gradual transformation of one's being following the Christian ideal.
