Parmi l'abondante historiographie consacrée au peuplement du Canada durant le Régime français, peu d'études se sont intéressées au courant migratoire inverse, celui qui menait ou ramenait en Europe des habitants de la colonie. Ce mémoire a pour objectif de comprendre les mécanismes du retour en France en étudiant les circonstances dans lesquelles il s'effectue. Trois catégories de départ seront abordées, chacune regroupant des chefs de famille repartis au terme d'une tentative d'établissement durant la période allant de 1632 à 1750 et que nous analyserons au niveau de leur trajectoire migratoire, leur situation familiale, leurs conditions socio-économiques et les dispositions entourant leur retour. Ces itinéraires individuels seront ensuite replacés à l'intérieur du contexte de la gestion de la circulation des personnes en territoire colonial, nous permettant de nous pencher sur la logistique et la réaction des autorités face à ces départs qu'elles jugeaient problématiques. / Return migration has always been a neglected aspect of the scientific study of migration, and historians of the peopling of French Canada are no exception. While many works have analysed the networks and the background of migrants who remained in New France, little is known about those who were apparently established and rooted in Canada, but for different reasons decided to go back in France. This research will attempt to understand this phenomenon by examining the personal, familial and economic circumstances in which the departures take place. Three different categories of returns will be analysed, each gathering married individuals who left the colony between 1632 and 1750. This migration current will then be replaced in the larger context of the control of transatlantic traffic by royal and colonial authorities, in order to know how they managed what they perceived to be a problem.
