Pornografins påverkan på ungdomar : En kvalitativ intervjustudie med yrkesverksamma som möter och stöttar ungdomar i sin yrkesroll / The Impact of Pornography on Adolescents

Previous research has shown that there is a correlation between the consumption of pornography and sexually aggressive behavior, as well as attitudes supporting and trivializing violence against women. Consumption of pornographic videos can also create paradoxical ideas about sex and sexuality. The use of pornography among Swedish adolescents is relatively extensive according to previous research. The following study aims to examine what perception professionals in their profession who meet adolescents have about adolescents' use of pornography and its effects on their attitudes against sex and sexuality. The study will also examine if, and then how, the professionals work with pornography and adolescents. Seven qualitative and semi-structured interviews have been conducted. The collected data was then processed using a thematic analysis. The study uses the theoretical frameworks “Social construction”, “the Gender scheme theory” and “Sexual script theory” to further analyze the results obtained from the interviews. The results from the study shows that the professionals perceive that the consumption of pornography as having an effect on adolescents and their attitude towards sex and sexuality. According to the professionals taking part in this study, consumption of pornography also affects the approach adolescents have towards themselves and others, as well as the language used in everyday life. The language is described as characteristically macho and enforces gender roles. The professionals share the perception that pornography creates unrealistic ideas about what sex actually is and what adolescents think that they should agree to in a sexual context. The results highlight a lack of common knowledge and/or material within the field, making it difficult for professionals to have a united approach in addressing pornography issues in their professions. The study concludes that professionals acknowledge the negative impact of pornography on adolescents and that it therefore is of importance that professionals nuance the image that pornography creates. This study is relevant to professionals working in the field of children and adolescents.
