Socialtjänstens arbete med mäns våld mot kvinnor : En kvalitativ studie om orsaker, bedömningar och organisationens förutsättningar

The purpose of the study was to increase knowledge of social services' work with men's violence against women based on organizational theory and the ecological perspective. A qualitative method has been used to collect data in the form of six interviews with social workers. The data from the interviews was thereafter analyzed using organizational theory and the ecological perspectives. The ecological perspective was utilized to analyze the causes of men's violence, while organizational theory was applied to comprehend social services' efforts with woman who have experienced violence. The study's results provided insight into the complexity of the issue of men's violence against women. Social workers needed to be creative and engaged in their work, applying a holistic perspective to address the situation of the abused woman. We found that guidelines could both help and hinder the work; while some assessment instruments may assist in evaluating the risks of a woman's exposure to violence, social workers perceived other instruments as negative and one-dimensional. The results also showed that collaboration was a crucial aspect of addressing men's violence against women, with internal work proving to be especially importance in the most complex cases. Cooperation with external actors could always be improved. Power structures, mental ill-health, childhood trauma, and addiction were factors that social workers believed could explain men's use of violence. Social workers believed that efforts had to be made early to reduce violence.
