Effectiveness of the use of and market uptake of biodiesel fuel : a case study of Bangkok, Thailand

Fossil energy reserves are limited, and fossil fuels produce air emissions. Thailand has implemented several policies to improve air quality and energy security. Biodiesel fuel is one alternative fuel which can be substituted for petroleum diesel. Biodiesel can be made from domestic raw materials, is a renewable resource and can be used without the modification of vehicle engines. It potentially has lower environmental impacts compared to petroleum diesel. However, the high cost of biodiesel fuel is a major barrier in competition with fossil-based fuel.
