Most legume-nodulating rhizobia release hydrogen into the surrounding soil. The effect of hydrogen on soil bacterial communities in microcosms and surrounding legume roots was investigated by generating Terminal Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (T-RFLP) profiles of bacterial 16S rRNA genes.
