The paper discusses the concepts of «quality» and «accreditation» in education with different meanings, and proposes comprehensive definitions that have been put into practice by the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean and the International Network of Evaluators through model «V» evaluation planningfor continuous improvement, integration and internationalization of higher education. / El ensayo analiza los conceptos de «calidad» y «acreditación» educativas con sus diferentes acepciones, y propone definiciones integrales que han sido llevadas a la práctica por la Unión de Universidades de América Latina y el Caribe (Udual) y la Red Internacional de Evaluadores (RIEV) por medio del Modelo «V» de evaluación-planeación, como estrategia para el mejoramiento permanente de la educación superior.
