Los Juegos Panamericanos celebrados en Lima en el año 2019 representaron un momento
histórico y significativo del deporte nacional, ya que Perú nunca antes tuvo la oportunidad de
albergar un evento deportivo de esta magnitud. En ese contexto, al periodismo deportivo
nacional también se le presentó una ocasión para desarrollar una cobertura de altos estándares.
El objetivo de este trabajo de investigación es establecer el grado de calidad informativa de tres
periódicos impresos durante los Juegos Panamericanos Lima 2019.
Los diarios seleccionados para este estudio son El Comercio y La República, considerados
medios de referencia nacional, y Depor, uno de los tabloides deportivos más leídos del país en
la coyuntura analizada. La tesis parte del concepto de calidad y construye un modelo de análisis
a partir del instrumento Valor Agregado Periodístico (VAP), que mide la calidad periodística
en función de las variables proceso de selección y proceso de creación de la noticia. Una de las
conclusiones de la investigación es que los medios analizados alcanzaron diferentes niveles de
rigurosidad en la cobertura. Es el caso del periódico deportivo, que muestra los niveles más
bajos de calidad informativa. La tesis reitera la utilidad del VAP, empleado en varias
investigaciones para el análisis cuantitativo de contenidos periodísticos, y sugiere algunas
líneas de investigación futuras. / The Pan American Games held in Lima in 2019 marked a historic and significant moment for
national sports, as Peru had never before had the opportunity to host a sporting event of this
magnitude. In this context, national sports journalism was also presented with an opportunity
to develop high-standard coverage. The purpose of this research is to determine the level of
informational quality of three print newspapers during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
The newspapers selected for this study are El Comercio and La República, considered national
reference media, and Depor, one of the most-read sports tabloids in the country at the time
analyzed. The thesis begins with the concept of quality and constructs an analytical model
based on the Journalistic Added Value (VAP) instrument, which measures journalistic quality
based on the variables of the selection process and the news creation process. One of the
conclusions of the research is that the media analyzed achieved different levels of rigor in their
coverage. This is the case with the sports newspaper, which shows the lowest levels of
informational quality. The thesis reiterates the usefulness of the VAP, used in various studies
for the quantitative analysis of journalistic content, and suggests some future lines of research.
