Den här kandidatuppsatsen tar avstamp i en av väggarna i det så kallade ikonkabinettet på Nationalmuseum för att undersöka vad som sker med ikonernas och ikonostasens potentiella verkan och betydelser i förflyttningen från ett kyrkorum till ett sekulärt museum. Syftet är att analysera dels vad som händer i mötet mellan ikonerna och en sekulär betraktare, dels hur museets rumsliga upplägg fungerar som en form av text eller uttalande. Undersökningen uppmärksammar att den sekulära betraktarens förståelse av ikonerna är beroende av konstvetenskapliga diskurser, vilka påverkar bildernas förmåga att verka på betraktaren som religiösa objekt. Även de beteenden som föreskrivs i museimiljön förhindrar ikonernas potentiella verkan på betraktaren. Uppsatsen visar även att utställningens museografi i stor utsträckning uppmärksammar ikonernas teologi och deras bruk i officiell religiös tradition, medan aspekter som både ikonernas och samlingens historia är underrepresenterade. / This bachelor thesis looks at some of the Russian icons from the Nationalmuseum collection in Stockholm, currently on display. It analyses the icons’ potential to affect the viewer as religious objects in a secular environment. The study is two-fold: first it analyses the icons through the reception by a secular viewer. Secondly, the layout of the exhibition is analysed from a narratological perspective as a form of text. The thesis explores ways in which the secular context is dependent on and shaped by different art historical discourses and that the social programming of the museum space affects the ability of the icons to work on the viewer as religious objects. Furthermore, it indicates that the museography of the exhibition privileges an official theological interpretation of icons, at the cost of the historicity of both the icons and of the collection.
