Previous issue date: 2010 / The main objective of this research is to understand how, after the 1964 coup d’etat that leaded to the establishment of the exception state in Brazil that trigged the limitation of freedom and the intensification of censorship, the theatre companies, from Pelotas and Porto Alegre, behaved toward military dictatorship (1964-1985), discussed as well as included political themes in their plays, which aimed to instigate the audience to have a position against the type of government that was imposed by the military forces, such as the Arena Theater in São Paulo, as well as many others in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Besides, we tried to found out, through the statement of the people who took part of the theatre companies at that time, the traits of resentments trigged by the censorship and repression, and, among them, fear, humiliation and resentments. / Esta pesquisa objetiva compreender a forma como, após o golpe militar de 1964, que levou a instalação do Estado de exceção no Brasil e gerou um progressivo cerceamento da liberdade e acirramento da censura, os grupos teatrais de Pelotas e Porto Alegre posicionaram-se em relação ao Regime Militar (1964-1985), debateram e inseriram temáticas de cunho politicamente engajado em suas produções, com claro intuito de instigar o espectador à tomada de uma posição contrária ao regime que havia sido imposto, a exemplo do que grupos, como o Teatro de Arena em São Paulo, bem como de outros no eixo Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo. Também, procura constatar, a partir de depoimentos de pessoas que integraram o movimento teatral naquele período, traços de sentimentos desencadeados pela censura e repressão, entre eles o medo, a humilhação e os ressentimentos.
