A presente dissertação tem como objectivo contribuir para a melhorcompreensão dos diferentes processos de urbanização. O Turismo, pelas suasparticularidades e polémicas, será tomado como caso de estudo. Astransformações no território são evidentes, tornando-se urgente um melhorentendimento dos vários actores, contextos, escalas e velocidades que neleinfluem.O Algarve retrata a metamorfose que a actual expansão urbana está adesempenhar e encerra uma enorme diversidade de padrões de urbanização, amaior parte deles gerados pela actividade económica do turismo.Para uma melhor compreensão da dinâmica entre o turismo e a suaterritorialização são revistos os conceitos próprios do sector turístico, a forma comoeste surgiu em Portugal, mais concretamente no Algarve e por fim, o modo comoeste é planeado e classificado.O PROTAL servirá de base para uma análise mais profunda de como setem vindo a planear a expansão urbana. Serão revistos os conceitos utilizadosneste plano de modo a compreender a sua adaptabilidade à realidade actual.A especificidade deste processo será analisada segundo três casos deestudo: Quarteira (onde a massificação turística é evidente); Vilamoura (turismoelitista) e o Barrocal (tendência recente de colonização do ex-rural).Estes padrões de urbanização estão sujeitos às influências da actividadeturística e à diversidade de modos de organização do negócio turístico, onde asmudanças de oferta e procura do mercado ditam as regras. Aqui os factorespaisagísticos são peças fundamentais de atractividade e a pressão de uso eedificação é evidente. Em cada caso serão aprofundados os diferentes padrões deurbanização utilizados de modo a compreender que medidas futuras devem seradoptadas. / This essay has the purpose to contribute to a better understanding of the differentplanning processes of urbanization. Due to its particularities and its controversies, tourismwill be used in a case study. The changes are evident on the territory, making it urgent tohave a better understanding of the various agents, contexts, scales and speed that influenceit.The Algarve portrays the metamorphosis that the actual urban expansion isperforming and encloses a huge variety of urbanization patterns, the majority are generatedby the economic sector of tourism.For a better understanding of the dynamics between tourism and its territorialisation,the concepts of the tourism sector, the way they arose in Portugal, more specifically in theAlgarve, and finally, the manner in which this is planned and classified have to be reviewed.The PROTAL will be used as the basis for a more profound analysis on how theurban expansion has been planned. The concepts used in this plan will be reviewed in orderto understand its adaptability to the actual reality.The specificity of this procedure will be analyzed according to three case studies:Quarteira (where mass tourism is evident); Vilamoura (elitist tourism) and Barrocal (recenttrend of colonization of ex-rural).These patterns of urbanisation are subject to the influence of the touristic activityand to the diversity of organizations systems of the touristic business, where the changes ofthe supply and the demand of the market dictate the rules. Here, the landscaping factors arefundamental pieces of attractiveness and the pressure for the use and the edification isevident. In each case, the different patterns of urbanization used will be thoroughly studied inorder to better understand what future measures must be developed.
