Previous issue date: 2013 / Abstract : This dissertation deals with the study of using sustainable production techniques in a process of automotive painting shop an automaker located in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais. With the search for innovation, market, utilization of production lines more efficient and more productive arise also generated large amounts of waste in their processes, higher consumption of energy and environmental resources to support a growing demand. A challenge for these manufacturing industries is the search for alternatives to reduce environmental degradation caused in their production processes. The main purpose of this dissertation is based on the use of methodologies such as cleaner production (CP) together with lean production, aiming at the improvement and modification of processes and technologies that could minimize the impact of its activities. To implement these goals the methodologies of implementing PL, respecting the progress of its phases, as well as the techniques of lean production through the use of its tools, such as Kaizen, PDCA, 5W1H, 4Ms among others Evidence of improvement in environmental sustainability of the production process can be observed in the indicators of energy consumption, as well as the reduction of waste generation, noting the reduced environmental impact in the production process of painting vehicle bodies. The expectation of this thesis was to contribute to "open the eyes" of people and institutions to act on the root cause of waste generation, breaking paradigms that waste are intrinsic to the processes.
