Previous issue date: 2002 / Resumo: Nos últimos anos, a equipe de enfermagem, no ambiente hospitalar, tem vivenciado uma nova realidade: o aumento do número de idosos ocupando os leitos hospitalares. Por suas características próprias, essa população necessita não só de assistência direcionada às suas peculiaridades, como também da presença do acompanhante, assegurada pela Portaria n° 280, de 7 de abril de 1999, do Ministério da Saúde. Partindo desta nova realidade, com a qual a equipe de enfermagem depara, corresponde a um desafio para seus membros, teve como objetivos: verificar e analisar a participação do acompanhante no cuidado do idoso hospitalizado, quanto aos recursos pessoais e às atividades que podem ser realizadas, e a expectativa dos membros da equipe de enfermagem quanto à participação do acompanhante no cuidado desse idoso. Além desses objetivos, pretendeu identificar e analisar os fatores que favorecem e/ou dificultam a participação do acompanhante, na ótica de 30 acompanhantes familiares e de 30 profissionais de enfermagem, por entrevistas, em um hospital de alta complexidade, do interior de São Paulo. A análise dos resultados, os sujeitos reconhecem que a presença do acompanhante durante este período promove apoio emocional e favorece a sua recuperação. A equipe destaca a necessidade de parceria no processo do cuidado e da orientação para a continuidade deste cuidado no domicílio. Quanto à participação do acompanhante, a equipe de enfermagem espera auxílio para o cuidado, o apoio e a obediência às norrt'lase às orientações. As atividades a ser realizadas pelos acompanhantes na ótica dos sujeitos foram: suporte emocional, alimentação e higienização. O interesse do acompanhante em participar no cuidado, a inter-relação pessoal e o conhecimento anterior do idoso facilitam a participação desses no cuidado. As limitações do acompanhante e sua inter-relação com a equipe de enfermagem são fatores que dificultam essa participação. A maior ênfase relacionada à participação do familiar no cuidado foi dada à inter-relação entre acompanhante e equipe de enfermagem, demonstrando a importância da comunicação nas interações sociais / Abstract: In the last years, the nursing staff, in the hospital environment, has lived a new reality: the increasing number of elderly persons interned in the hospitais. By its own characteristics, this population needs not only nursing care but also the presence of a caregiver, as stated by the law number 280, dated April 07, 1999 from Health Ministery. From this reality that the nursing staff is facing and the challenge to its members, it had as objectives: to verify and analyse the participation of the caregiver to the interned elderly person related to personal resources and the activities that can be done, and the expectation of the nursing staff according to the participation of the caregiver looking afier the interned elderly person. Besides these objectives, it intended to identify and analyse the factors that assist and/or make difficulty the participation of the caregiver, noticed by 30 caregivers and 30 nursing professionals, through interviews, of a high complexity hospital from São Paulo countryside. According to the result analysis, the subjects recognize that the presence of the caregiver during this period gives emotional support and favors the recovery. The nursing staff outlined the necessity of the partnership in the caring and orientation process to the continuity of this work at home. Related to the caregiver participation, the nursing staff expects helping to the care, supporting and following to the laws and orientations. The activities to be done by the caregivers according to the subjects are: emotional support, feeding and hygiene. The interest of the caregiver in participating in the process, the personal inter-relation and the previous knowledge make their participation easier. The limitations of the caregiver and his inter-relation to the nursing staff are factors that make this participation difficulty. The biggest emphasis related to the family participation in this care was the inter-relation between the caregivers and the nursing staff demonstrating the importance of the communication in the social interactions / Mestrado / Enfermagem / Mestre em Enfermagem
