Previous issue date: 2007 / Resumo: Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o comportamento das variáveis sociodemográficas, clínicas, físicas, funcional e psicológica em idosos atendidos em um Ambulatório de Geriatria, identificando o perfil destes idosos quanto à ocorrência de quedas. Foram investigados 96 idosos com relação ao déficit visual (Tabela de Snellen), desempenho físico de membros inferiores (Short Performance Battery SPPB), independência funcional (Medida de Independência Funcional MIF), medo de quedas (sim/não), auto-eficácia para quedas (Medida de Auto-eficácia para quedas) e sintomas depressivos (versão Center Epidemiologic Scale - Depression CES-D). Procedeu-se à Análise de Agrupamentos para analisar a formação de 'perfis' de idosos para quedas e Análise de Regressão Univariada para predizer a ocorrência de quedas entre os três grupos formados. Verificou-se que as variáveis que mais contribuíram para a formação dos agrupamentos foram a independência funcional, auto-eficácia para quedas, desempenho físico de membros inferiores, idade e gênero. Mulheres com idade média de 73 anos, com baixos valores da MIF e do SPPB, e com menor auto-eficácia apresentaram maior risco para quedas (OR=7,04). Os resultados tendem a apontar uma relação entre desempenho físico, independência funcional e auto-eficácia, ressaltando a importância de intervenções no manejo e prevenção de quedas considerando simultaneamente os domínios físico, funcional e psicológico do idoso / Abstract: The objective of this study is analyzing the behavior of the socio-demographic, clinical, physical, functional and psychological variables in elderly that were seen in Geriatrics Outpatient Service, identify the profile elderly about the occurrence of falls. Ninety six aged were investigated with relation to visual deficit (Snellen letter test chart), lower extremity physical performance (Short Performance Battery SPPB), functional independence (Functional Independence Measure FIM), fear of falling (yes/no), fall-related self-efficacy (Falls Efficacy Measure) and depressive symptoms (Center Epidemiologic Scale - Depression CES-D version). The Cluster Analysis were proceeded to analyze the formation of 'profiles' elderly to falls and Univariate Regression Analysis was proceeded to predict the occurrence of falls between the three formed groups. It was verified that the
variables that had more contributed in the formation of the clusters had been the functional independence, fall-related self-efficacy, lower extremity physical performance, age and gender. Women with average age of 73 years, with low values of FIM and the SPPB and e with lesser self-efficacy had presented greater risk for falls (OR=7.04). The results tend to point a correlation between physical performance, functional independence and fallrelated self-efficacy standing out the importance of interventions in the handling and prevention of falls considering simultaneously the domain physical, psychological and functional of the elderly / Mestrado / Gerontologia / Mestre em Gerontologia
