Previous issue date: 2014 / Resumo: O processo de urbanização se manifesta através da configuração de um conjunto de diversos usos urbanos, de acordo com os interesses e estratégias de distintos agentes produtores do espaço geográfico, o qual deve ser regulado por uma legislação pertinente para conter, regular e planejar os rumos da expansão urbana. Logo, a legislação do perímetro urbano do município vem a ser um instrumento legal que deveria atender essa demanda no planejamento e gestão urbanos. O presente estudo tem como objetivo principal compreender o significado existente na relação entre área urbana e área urbanizada no processo de produção do espaço geográfico na Região Metropolitana de Campinas (RMC). A área urbana é delimitada pela lei do perímetro urbano e representa o uso formal desse espaço urbano, já a área urbanizada referente à prática socioespacial real e materializada através da cidade, representa o uso urbano real dessa região. Essa relação entre os diferentes usos revela a ação de diversos agentes envolvidos e suas estratégias adotadas, as quais resultam numa determinada configuração do espaço urbano. Para realizar este estudo utilizou-se de infraestrutura necessária para a aquisição, processamento e análise de informação do espaço geográfico por meio de geotecnologias. Devido à complexidade de informações e relações espaciais na RMC, o uso de geotecnologias no processo de sua compreensão, se mostrou como importante subsídio para abranger tamanho desafio. Portanto, as questões trazidas, desde a urbanização, os limites urbanos legais e reais, e a região escolhida que é de grande importância econômica, permitiram justificar a importância da realização deste estudo a fim de contribuir para a compreensão do significado dessas relações no processo de produção do espaço geográfico e da dinâmica existente na RMC. Esse estudo permitiu a identificação de seis situações encontradas frente a análise da relação uso real e uso formal, e a identificação do grau de adequação desses municípios com relação a norma (legislação do perímetro urbano). Este trabalho revela e evidencia as descontinuidades territoriais presentes no processo de urbanização da RMC / Abstract: The urbanization process manifest itself through a configuration of a set of different urban uses, according to the interests and strategies of different geographical space producers, and it must be regulated by appropriate laws in order to control and plan the urban expansion. Due to this fact, urban perimeter laws are the legal instrument that should look after urban management and planning. The main objective of this research is to understand the relationship between urban area and urbanized area within the geographical space production process in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC). The urban area is limited by urban perimeter laws and represents the formal use of this urban space. The urbanized area, the social-space practice objectified through the city, represents the real urban use of this region. The relationship between the different uses reveals the influence of different agent involved and its strategies, which will form a particular urban space configuration. In this research, the appropriate infrastructure was used to obtain, process and analyze geographical space information through the so called geotechnologies. Due to the complexity of the information obtained and the spatial relation in the RMC, the use of this geotecnologies was found to be of a great importance. The issues that arose within the development of this research, from urbanization, real and legal urban limits to the economic influence of the region, proved the importance of the aforementioned research in the understanding of the relationships in the geographical space production process and the existing dynamics in the RMC. This research allowed the identification of six different situations regarding the relationship between real use and formal use. Based in these situations, each municipality within the scope of this research was classified regarding its "correspondence degree" with the law (urban perimeter laws).
