Previous issue date: 2010-04-24 / Our research about 'A pena e a Lei', from Ariano Suassuna had as its
purpose to apprehend in the play the allegorical representation of life, by means of
a inverted relation with the biblical text, articulated to the theatrical elements
(characters, scene indicators, voice of the author-actor-host). So that, we
supported it specially in the reading of the acts and puppet-shows that are
inscribed in this dramatic text and in Bakhtin's concepts of carnavalisation and
grotesque parody of Middle Age, representing the passage of the man, the
automated birth to the truth autonomy of the being, in an inversion of the biblical
Genesis, which goal is to create by the theatrical art a proposal of a liberating critic
of the political and economical domination system. Thus, one may observe that the
unit of the play is in parallel with the Bible and talks directly with the medieval
theater describing a logical sequence of the Man's history, from the origin to
redemption, and the struggle between both entities: Good and Evil. Such structure
points to a bigger allegory, representing life of man on Earth. One may still observe
that the play represents characteristics of the popular culture from northeast of
Brazil puppet-show theater, 'bumba-meu-boi', sayings and popular songs in a
confluence that makes evident the interest of Suassuna in not only putting the
popular culture from northeast of Brazil besides an erudite culture but also to take
to people a knowledge propitiated by art. Therefore, one may presume that
Suassuna's theater brings in its core the duplicity between the artistic function and
pragmatics, which serves Armorial's project, afterwards created by the author / Nossa pesquisa sobre A pena e a Lei , de Ariano Suassuna teve como
objetivo apreender na peça teatral a representação alegórica da vida, por meio de
uma relação invertida com o texto bíblico, articulada aos elementos teatrais
(personagens, indicadores de cena, voz do autor-ator-apresentador). Para isso,
amparamo-nos, especialmente, na leitura dos autos e mamulengos que estão
inscritos nesse texto dramático e nos conceitos bakhtinianos de carnavalização e
paródia grotesca da Idade Média, representando a passagem do homem, do
nascimento automatizado até chegar à verdadeira autonomia do ser, numa
inversão do gênesis bíblico, cuja meta é criar pela arte teatral uma proposta de
crítica libertadora do sistema de dominação econômica e política. Desse modo,
observamos que a unidade da peça anda em paralelo com a Bíblia e dialoga
diretamente com o teatro medieval narrando numa seqüência lógica a história do
Homem, da origem à redenção, e da luta entre as duas entidades: o Bem e o Mal.
Tal estrutura aponta para uma alegoria maior, representando a vida do homem na
Terra. Observamos ainda, que a peça apresenta características da cultura popular
nordestina o teatro de mamulengos, o bumba-meu-boi, ditados e canções
populares numa confluência que torna evidente o interesse de Suassuna em não
só colocar a cultura popular nordestina ao lado da erudita como também de levar
ao público um saber propiciado pela arte. Portanto, podemos inferir que o teatro
de Suassuna traz em seu bojo a duplicidade entre a função artística e a
pragmática, que atende à proposta do projeto Armorial, criado posteriormente pelo
autor
