A presente dissertação teve como propósito fundamental explorar o sentimento de insegurança nas suas dimensões fundamentais - a dimensão afetiva (medo do crime), cognitiva (perceção do risco de vitimização) e comportamental (adoção de comportamentos por razões de segurança). Fundamentalmente procurou-se, por um lado, perceber como têm sido operacionalizadas estas dimensões e, por outro, procurar possíveis relações entre as dimensões do sentimento de insegurança e um conjunto de variáveis individuais contextuais e sociais. / The present thesis is aimed to explore the feelings of insecurity in its fundamental dimensions
- affective dimension (fear of crime), cognitive dimension (perceived risk of victimization)
and behavioral dimension (behavioral reactions to crime). The specific goals were, on one
hand, to understand how these dimensions have been operationalized and, on the other hand,
to seek possible relations between feelings of insecurity with individual, contextual, and
social variables. For these purposes, a survey was constructed and administered to a sample of
110 subjects from city of OPorto. Feelings of insecurity were operationalized through the
integration of a set of different measures that have been used in international victim's surveys
and in investigations by the Oporto Faculty of Criminology.
