O Fundo Antigo da Universidade do Porto é constituído por sistemas de informação resultantes de diferentes entidades, as quais ainda que relacionadas entre si, tiveram uma identidade e percurso específicos. A presente dissertação procura dar relevo a um destes sistemas de informação: o da Academia Politécnica do Porto. Assim, no contexto do Fundo Antigo da Universidade do Porto pretende-se organizar, representar e descrever o acervo da Academia Politécnica do Porto.Esta dissertação é elaborada no âmbito da Ciência da Informação, dedicando-se ao tratamento de temáticas como a gestão de informação, organização e representação da informação. Como método científico de investigação é utilizado o Método Quadripolar, e como ferramenta interpretativa a Teoria Sistémica.Realizou-se um estudo orgânico-funcional da Academia Politécnica do Porto, para permitir compreender e visualizar melhor a sua estrutura e evolução da mesma, desde a sua criação ao seu último momento. Esta estrutura teve influência, naturalmente, no seu sistema de informação. Assim, descreveu-se a constituição e evolução do sistema de informação, de acordo com todos os registos existentes e a partir de estudos realizados anteriormente. Elaborou-se ainda um inventário de parte da documentação da Academia, com a indicação da sua localização atual, para que ficasse claro o modo como este sistema se dispersou. Este trabalho de teve várias frentes: o estudo do catálogo da Academia publicado em 1883 e pesquisa das obras, a catalogação no piso 1 do Fundo Antigo da Universidade do Porto e ainda o inventário da coleção do Instituto de Botânica, que se encontra na Faculdade de Ciências.A análise do sistema de informação da Academia levou à conclusão de que a informação que o constituía se encontra atualmente dispersa por várias instituições, como a Reitoria da Universidade do Porto, a Faculdade de Ciências e a Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. Deste modo, será necessário um trabalho minucioso e demorado para que se possa verdadeiramente perceber a dimensão do conjunto informacional e reunir o mesmo.O trabalho levado a cabo abre portas para possíveis projetos futuros, com a possibilidade de reunir este sistema de informação digitalmente para divulgação publica da história de uma instituição que deu um contributo importante para o desenvolvimento do país. / The University of Porto's Old Document Collection consists of several information systems that derive from different entities, which although related to one another, had a distinct identity and path. The present dissertation attempts to give emphasis to one of these information systems: the one from Polytechnic Academy of Porto. Therefore, in the context of the University of Porto's Old Document Collection it's sought to organize, represent and describe the collection of the Polytechnic Academy of Porto.This dissertation is elaborated in the field of Information Science, approaching themes such as information management, organization and representation of information. The Quadripolar Method is used as the scientific method, and as an interpretative tool the Systemic theory.An organic-functional study of the Polytechnic Academy of Porto was carried out, thus allowing the understanding e visualization of its structure and evolution, since its creation to its last moment. This structure influenced, naturally, its information system. Thereby, it was described the constitution and evolution of the information system, according to all the records available and previous studies.It was also made an inventory of part of the documentation of the Academy, indicating its present location so it was clear the way that the documentation was spread. The inventory was divided in a few aspects: the study of the Academy's catalog, published in 1883, and search for the books, the cataloging work on the first floor of the University of Porto's Old Document Collection and the inventory of the Collection of the Botanic Institute, located in the Sciences Faculty.The analysis of the Academy's information system led to the conclusion that the information that was part of it is now scattered by different institutions, like the University Rectory, the Sciences Faculty and Engineering Faculty of the University of Porto. Thus, it will be necessary a meticulous and prolonged work, so we can truly understand the dimension of the information system and reunite it.The present work opens doors for probable future projects, with the possibility of reuniting digitally this system so the history of an institution that gave such an important contribution for the development of a country can be publicly displayed and appreciated.
