nÃo hà / This work consists of a pioneering study on the mechanisms of decision taking in credit cooperatives, institutions with high growth rate in the Brazilian financial system,
whose direct operations generate a management trade-off regarding the problem of incentives and monitoring. In this context, some descriptive analyses are performed regarding the optimizing behavior of the northeastern and northern economy cooperatives and mutual credit, vis-Ã-vis the simulation performed in Banerjee, Besley and Guinnane (1994). The main evidences suggest that due to the economic
instability, the empirical success for the German cooperatives is not observed in the Brazilian case. / Este trabalho consiste em um estudo pioneiro sobre os mecanismos de tomada de decisÃo em cooperativas de crÃdito, instituiÃÃes com relevante taxa de crescimento
no sistema financeiro brasileiro, cujas operaÃÃes diretas geram um trade-off de gestÃo inerente ao problema de incentivos e de monitoramento. Neste contexto, propÃe-se a realizar anÃlises descritivas a respeito do comportamento otimizador das cooperativas de economia e crÃdito mÃtuo das regiÃes Norte e Nordeste, vis-Ãvis Ãs simulaÃÃes realizadas em Banerjee, Besley e Guinnane (1994). As principais
evidÃncias sugerem que em razÃo da instabilidade econÃmica, o sucesso empÃrico obtido para as cooperativas alemÃs nÃo se fez acompanhar de igual sucesso para o caso brasileiro.
