Sacral objects in Czechia: changes and new forms Jan Klubal, DP 2010 ABSTRACT This thesis deals with the sacral objects which are understood as physical indicators of the religious behaviour of population. Although Czech society is considered to be one of the most secularized in the terms of church adherence in Europe, it does not mean that Czechs are atheistic nation. Due to their scepticism to all organized forms of religion which is caused by the specific historical development of Czech country, people prefer the alternative forms of religiosity including ocultism and other spiritual practics. The main aim of this thesis is to explore whether and how the transformation of religiosity in Czechia affects the religious landscape. This will be shown on the case of sacral objects identified in model areas Praha, Pelhřimov and Kaplice. The first part makes a survey of present knowledge relevant to sacral objects issue. This section consists of the review of literature, the definition of main terms and the description of applied methods. The next part deals with the historical development and current situation of religion and religious landscape in Czechia. The last section summarizes and discusses the results of field survey and compares the religious landscape of model areas. The review of interviews is also...
