This article examines how notaries, who had the power to register people’s words and actions in official records, did their business. The author asks how the notaries registered judicial processes, in whose name they did it, and what were the vested interests involved in the processes. / El artículo examina la actuación de los notarios, quienes tenían el poder de registrar las palabras y acciones de la población en los protocolos oficiales. La autora indaga cómo los notarios llevaban adelante los procesos judiciales, a nombre de quiénes los hacían y explora los intereses en juego en los mismos.
