La lactancia materna es la práctica de alimentación de elección de la mayoría de las
mujeres que transitan el Hospital de Río Colorado, por sus innumerables beneficios, pero
entre un 40% y 60 % no logra sostenerla en forma exclusiva hasta el sexto mes de la/él
beba/e. El interés de la investigación está centrado en los relatos y sentires de las propias
mujeres en relación con las condiciones que influyen en la lactancia materna. El objetivo es
analizar el lugar material y simbólico que ocupan las condiciones socioculturales e
institucionales y las condiciones físicas “adversas” vinculadas a la vida cotidiana de las
mujeres en la interrupción de la lactancia materna durante el primer semestre del/la bebé/a,
según el relato de las mismas mujeres. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo con enfoque
exploratorio; se analizaron los relatos de vida de las mujeres que interrumpieron total o
parcialmente la lactancia materna antes del sexto mes de vida de sus bebes/as. El análisis
se basó en categorías del entramado teórico conjugadas con categorías elaboradas a partir
de dimensiones que surgieron del relato de las mujeres. Los resultados: se entrevistaron
nueve mujeres. Se observó una universalización de la idea de amamantar, pero no una
relación necesariamente directa con las experiencias de las abuelas, madres, hermanas.
Estimo que varias de las mujeres toman decisiones, teniendo en cuenta las alternativas y
aquellas situaciones que interpretan como más acordes a su cotidianidad. Las mujeres
refirieron la hipogalactosemia, la falta de aumento de peso y las hipoglucemias como las
causas más frecuentes de la interrupción de la LME. Al mismo tiempo se contempló en el
análisis, con apoyatura teórica, el lugar de prácticas y discursos histórico contextuales -tanto
moralizantes como reivindicativos de la condición de mujer madre- en torno a la LM. / Breastfeeding is the feeding practice of choice for the majority of women who transit the Rio
Colorado Hospital, due to its innumerable benefits, but between 40% and 60% do not

is focused on the stories and feelings of the women themselves in relation to the conditions
that influence breastfeeding. The objective is to analyze the material and symbolic place
occupied by sociocultural and institutional conditions and "adverse" physical conditions
linked to the daily life of women in the interruption of breastfeeding during the baby's first
semester, according to the story of the women themselves. A qualitative study with an
exploratory approach was carried out; The life stories of women who totally or partially
interrupted breastfeeding before the sixth month of their babies' lives were analyzed. The
analysis was based on categories of the theoretical framework combined with categories
elaborated from dimensions that emerged from the women's narrative. The results: nine
women were interviewed. A universalization of the idea of breastfeeding was observed, but
not necessarily a direct relationship with the experiences of grandmothers, mothers, sisters. I
believe that several of the women make decisions, taking into account the alternatives and
those situations that they interpret as more in line with their daily lives. Women reported
hypogalactosemia, lack of weight gain, and hypoglycemia as the most frequent causes of
EBF discontinuation. At the same time, the analysis contemplated, with theoretical support,
the place of contextual historical practices and discourses -both moralizing and vindicating
the condition of mother-woman- around the BF.
