A moveable feast

Today in Umeå many smaller cultural organizations are experiencing a lack of venues to perform at. The existing ones are often expensive and mostly designed for a bigger audience which makes it hard for amateurs to participate within the cultural life of the city. In the meantime with the future developments of the city more and more parking lots are being constructed, often not used during the whole day but still a more and more dominant part of the citie’s public space, minimizing the room for other activities to take place. But what if we could solve the lack of space for cultural organisations by using the space of parking lots and apply the same costs for parking a vehicle as to hosting a concert there? This proposal aims to use this idea and create a portable stage that could work within the rules for parked vehicles and create a necessary alternative to the existing concert venues in Umeå. The intention is to create a stage that could easily be transported to different locations depending on the users needs and to bring back music to the streets.
