Viena iš efektyviausių ir pasaulyje sėkmingai socialinių paslaugų veiklą vykdančių trečiojo sektoriaus organizacija – bendruomenės centras. Bendruomenė ir bendruomenės centras kaip organizacija gali nuimti nemažą dalį socialinių paslaugų naštos nuo valstybės pečių, bendradarbiaudama su valstybinėmis institucijomis kitomis nevyriausybinėmis organizacijomis, perimdama kai kurias funkcijas ir būdama tarpininku tarp individo ir vykdomos politikos. Lietuvoje, kaip ir visame pasaulyje, socialinė apsauga bei socialinių paslaugų teikimas yra visada aktuali valstybės politikos dalis. Valstybinės institucijos ne visada pajėgios efektyviai teikti socialines paslaugas, juo labiau, socialinių problemų šaltinių atsiranda vis naujų – migracijos sukeltos problemos, priklausomybių ligos ir kt. Bendruomenės centrai, kaip artimiausioji institucija, esanti arčiausiai individo bei jo šeimos, gali orientuotis ne tik į jau įvykusių reiškinių pasekmių likvidavimą, bet ir vykdyti prevenciją, užkirsdama kelią socialinės problemos vystymuisi ir išvengti pasekmių ateityje, vykdyti kompleksinį darbą, apimantį visas visuomenėje veikiančias socialiai silpnas grupes. Šio darbo tikslas – identifikuoti bendruomenės centrų vaidmenį Kauno miesto savivaldybės socialinių paslaugų sistemoje, paslaugų gavėjų nuomone. Community centre as an organization can take a great load of social work from government, collaborating with governmental institutions and other nongovernmental organizations, by absorbing some functions and becoming an intermediate between the individual and the governmental policy. In Lithuania as in the whole world social security and social services is a relevant part of governmental policy. Governmental institutions are not always capable to provide effective social service care, especially when new sources of social problems occur – migration problems, addiction problems and other. Community centers as the closest institution to the individual may be oriented into the prevention, preventing the social problem from developing and not the liquidation of the consequences, to present the complex work that include all the groups of risk in society.
