Previous issue date: 2011-12-05 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / Given the importance of planarity of the tiles for covering of floor and walls, this work aims to identify the influence of engobe layer on the behavior of central curvature, and from then on, allowing a greater understanding of the phenomenon of coupling support-engobe-enamel. The engobes are currently used as intermediate layer of ceramic tiles. Among the functions provided by engobes, some can be highlighted, hide the color of the ceramic, eliminate surface defects, to prevent reactions between the substrate and the ceramic glaze. In addition, the engobe also have a role in the coupling between substrate and enamel, but this is one of the least studied in the literature. To conduct the study, distinct engobes compositions were formulated, with planned variations in their behavior during the burning (fusibility and thermal expansion). With the help of the technique of design of experiments (DOE) with 2k factorial analysis, it was possible to study the effect of these variables on the central curvature. Results helped to understand the effect of each variable and the role of engobe on the flatness of the ceramic tiles. From the analysis of the results obtained it was suggested a statistical method that can help reduce the central curvature of the tiles from the knowledge of the characteristics of the engobe to the same type of enamel. / Devido à importância da planaridade das placas cerâmicas para revestimento de pisos e paredes, o presente trabalho visa identificar a influência da camada de engobe sobre o comportamento da curvatura central e, a partir de então, permitir uma maior compreensão do fenômeno de acoplamento suporte-engobe-esmalte. Os engobes são utilizados atualmente como camada intermediária nas placas de revestimentos cerâmicos. Dentre as funções apresentadas pelos engobes, podem ser destacadas algumas como: ocultar a cor do suporte cerâmico, eliminar defeitos superficiais e impedir reações entre o suporte e o esmalte cerâmico. Além disso, o engobe também têm papel no acoplamento entre suporte e esmalte, porém este é um dos aspectos menos tratado na literatura. Para a realização do estudo, foram formuladas distintas composições de engobes, com variações planejadas nas características de comportamento durante a queima (fusibilidade e expansão térmica linear). Com o auxílio da técnica de planejamento de experimentos (DOE) com análise fatorial 2k estudou-se o efeito dessas variáveis sobre a curvatura central. Os resultados permitiram a compreensão do efeito de cada uma das variáveis e do papel do engobe sobre a planaridade das placas cerâmicas. Partindo das análises dos resultados obtidos, sugeriu-se um método estatístico que possa auxiliar na redução das curvaturas centrais das placas cerâmicas à partir do conhecimento das características do engobe, para mesma tipologia de esmalte.
