Previous issue date: 1999 / Resumo: A Escola Superior de Educação Física de Muzambinho, MG, está inserida na menor cidade (aproximadamente 20 mil habitantes) entre as mais de 150 outras Escolas da área no país. Nesta dissertação procurou-se contextualizar sua criação e desenvolvimento, indagando as causas de sua gênese em 1971, e a sua influência no processo histórico da região sudoeste de Minas Gerais e leste de São Paulo, ao mesmo tempo, relacionou-se os fatos com aqueles vividos pela comunidade da Educação Física Brasileira. Entre os pressupostos que sustentaram a criação da Escola destacam-se: a inexistência de professores habilitados, o amplo mercado de trabalho para aulas de Educação Física nas inúmeras escolas, a legislação que incentivava a abertura de escolas particulares, a existência de uma única escola de Educação Física no Estado de Minas Gerais e as condições culturais e sócio-econômicas propícias na época. Trata-se de uma pesquisa histórica na sua forma interpretativa que, além de descrever os fatos, analisa e explica porque aconteceram. Inicialmente, a partir de uma síntese sócio-econômico-político-educacional dos anos 60/70, procurou-se oferecer um panorama histórico para melhor entendimento da origem da Escola. A seguir destacou-se os resultados alcançados no desenvolvimento da sua existência, enfatizando não só o curso de graduação, mas também outras iniciativas como: pós-graduação "lato sensu", Simpósio Mineiro de Ciência do Movimento, Centro de Pesquisa, Congresso Interno de Ciência do Movimento, Centro de Extensão e o projeto de Revistas de Educação Física, Esporte e Lazer On-line. Ao final apresentaram-se algumas considerações baseadas em duas formas de analisar os acontecimentos. Primeiro lançou-se um "olhar para trás", o que permitiu concluir que a criação da Escola tomou-se um marco referencial na região de sua abrangência, contribuindo para a melhoria dos serviços ofertados à sociedade, através de profissionais habilitados. Simultaneamente, ao lançar um "olhar para frente", ficou patenteada, a longa caminhada a ser empreendida, consubstanciada através de sugestões de prioridades para a melhoria da qualidade do processo de formação dos futuros professores / Abstract: The Physical Education Faculty of Muzambinho, MG, is located in the smallest city (about 20 thousand inhabitants) among more than 150 other Schools in that part of the country. It was tried, in this essay, to put in the context its creation and development, questioning the cause of its genesis in 1971, and its influence in the historical process ofthe southwest region of the Sate of Minas Gerais and the east of the State of São Paulo, at the same time, the facts were related to those experienced by the Brazilian Physical Education Community. Among the reasons that supported the creation of the School, stand out: the nonexistence of qualified teachers, the wide work market for Physical Education classes in the countless schools, the legislation which stimulated the opening of private schools, the existence of an only Physical Education School in the State of Minas Gerais and the cultural and social economical conditions propitious at that time. It is about an interpretative historical research, which besides describing the facts, analyses and explains why they have happened. At first beginning from a social economic political and education synthesis ofthe 60'/70', it was tried to offer a historical panorama for a better understanding of the School origino Afterwards, it was stood out the reached results on the development of its existence, emphasizing not only the graduation course, but also other incentives as: post graduation "lato sensu", "Simpósio Mineiro de Ciência do Movimento", Research Center, "Congresso Interno de Ciência do movimento", Extension Center and the project of Physical Education, Sports and Leisure Magazines On-Line. At the end some considerations were presented, based on two ways of analyzing the occurrences. First of all, a "look to the past" was taken, what turned possible to conclude that the creation of the School became a landmark of reference in its comprehended region, contributing for the improvement of services offered to society by qualified teachers. .Simultaneously, upon taking "a look to the future" the long walk to be undertaken was manifested, consubstantiated by suggestions of priorities for the improvement of the quality of future teachers' educational process / Mestrado / Mestre em Educação Física
