This research’s main objective was to explore the relationship between maternal sensitivity and the emotional regulation of preschooler children. In order to achieve this, 21 mothers, between 20 and 45 years old (M = 36, SD = 6.50), and their children, between 39 and 71 months of age (M = 52, SD = 11.67) were evaluated. The instruments used were the Maternal Behavior for Preschoolers Q-set (MBPQS) for maternal sensitivity and Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC) for emotional regulation. No relationship between the scales of emotional regulation and the overall score of sensitivity was found; however, a significant, moderate and inverse association was found between the emotional regulation scale and two sensitivity scales: safe base support and contribution to harmonious interactions. The scores of all scales of maternal sensitivity prove to be lower than those established by the theory, except for Contribution to harmonious interactions. As for emotional regulation, the emotional regulation scale obtain a higher score than the scale of lability/negativity. Finally, the results are discussed based on the theories and empirical research reviewed. Further analysis of relevant constructs based on socio-demographic variables are discussed.
