O mercado de trabalho induziu à implementação de novos processos de ensino-aprendizagem, o que exigiu a redefinição de políticas educacionais para o ensino profissional. A reformulação do sistema educacional superior, na segunda metade do século vinte, fez emergir os cursos de curta duração, denominados Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia, como uma modalidade de ensino superior específica e diferenciada, para responder a exigência urgente do mercado, e da elevada demanda social pelo ensino superior. Com a necessidade de conhecer a real situação ocupacional dos tecnólogos no mercado de trabalho, este estudo se direciona ao acompanhamento dos egressos dos Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia em Análise e Desenvolvimento de Sistemas, e de Tecnologia em Gestão Comercial, na microrregião de Januária, área de abrangência do Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais - Campus Januária. O estudo objetivou conhecer qual a inserção dos tecnólogos no mercado, de trabalho, verificando se estes profissionais assumiam uma função no mercado de acordo com sua formação de nível superior. Os resultados obtidos indicam que os Tecnólogos se encontram ocupados em funções que limitam e subutilizam a competência superior adquirida, mantendo-os na execução de simples atividades técnicas. Observa-se, também na pesquisa, a importância dos CST na formação de profissionais qualificados que atendam às reais necessidades do mercado, o que, além de facilitar a inserção nesse mercado formal, contribui para o desenvolvimento local e regional. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Historically, there is a debate in Brazil about the connections between profession education and the social and economic demands and the emerging technologies. The work market induced the implementation of new educational processes what required the redefinition of the educational politicals to the professional education. The reformulation of the higher education system in the second half of the 20th century has made to emerge short term courses named Higher Education Courses of Technology as a specific and differentiated modality of higher education to answer to the urgent needs of the market and to the social demand for higher education. Considering the need of knowing the real occupational situation of the technologists in the work market, this study investigated the egresses from the Higher Education Courses of Technology in Analysis and Development of Systems and of Technology in Commercial Management in the micro region of Januária, area of scope of the Federal Institute of the North of Minas Gerais - Campus Januária. The study aimed at knowing the insertion of the technologists in the work market, verifying if these professionals are inserted in the market according to their educational level. Results indicate that the technologists act in functions which limit or underuse the acquired higher competence keeping them executing simple technical functions. It was also observed the importance of the Higher Education Courses of Technology in the qualification of professionals to attend to the real needs of the market what besides facilitating the insertion in the formal market contribute to the local and regional development.
