Este trabalho buscou avaliar a resistência à fadiga em flexão e caracterizar os mecanismos de iniciação e propagação de trincas por fadiga de aços cementados e dos aços temperados por indução. Para o tratamento de cementação foram utilizados os aços SAE 8620 e SAE 4820. O tratamento de têmpera por indução foi utilizado o aço SAE 8650. Foram realizados diferentes ciclos de cementação visando determinar a influência da microestrutura na tenacidade e resistência à fadiga, dando-se especial ênfase na influência da austenita retida sobre estas propriedades. A caracterização geométrica das trincas de fadiga através de exames fractográficos permitiu, com aplicação de técnicas da Mecânica da Fratura Linear Elástica, a determinação da tenacidade à fratura de camadas de aços cementados. Os resultados encontrados para tenacidade à fratura variaram de 11.8 a 23 MPa.m-1/2, tendo sido constatada influência da tensão máxima aplicada sobre a tenacidade à fratura. / This work aims to evaluate the bending fatigue behavior and describes fatigue crack initiation and propagation in carburized steels and induction hardened steel. For the carburizing treatment the steels SAE 4820 and SAE 8620 were used. For the induction heat treatment the SAE 8650 was used. Different carburi zing processes were taken to examine the effect of microstructure on bending fatigue and on fracture toughness behavior of carburized steels, an special emphasis was gi ven to the influence of retained austenite on those properties. The geometric characterization of bending fatigue cracks thought fracture analysis, allowed to calculate the fracture toughness of the carburized case by linear elastic fracture mechanics. The fracture toughness of the carburized case ranged from 11.8 to 23 MPa.m-1/2 , also was found that case fracture toughness increases with increasing maximum applied stress during fatigue testing.
